LED spars
I'm so excited at installing the new LED spars on my 06 Cayman S, I have to share:
These fit like OEM, and remove those mickey-mouse round foglights. More information available at Planet 9 forum, or PM me.

Looks very nice...
I wonder if a mod like that would be possible for a 996...
Can you provide me with more information on the process?
EDIT: I found it over on the other forum you mentioned. It doesn't look like it would be that easy for a 996...

The fog lights on the Cayman have always been one of my biggest issues. THis is a very nice modification, much better look. Nice looking Cayman by the way, love the wheels!

Thanks! Yes, these are very specific to the early Cayman models. The facia, and particularly the intake grills are a common area of change, even on an annual basis. The guy making these is polling the interest for early Boxster grilles, but then there are newer Caymans to change, also. The only 987 model with LEDs at the front is the newest Boxster (and the 2013 model yet to go on sale, of course.)
I have always liked the way Porsche has used LEDs on the facia, even though I think the 991 LEDs are a little too large, but that's a nitpick, perhaps.

The illumination is similar to the early Audi LEDs, especially on their race cars, but they are not in the same league as Audi, Merc, or even Lexus DRLs as they appear in the US currently. The guy who makes them never advertized them as DRLs, but rather as running lights to replace the parking lights that accompany the foglights in the original round spars. They come pre-wired to replace the parking lights (you lose the --ineffective-- fog lights, no biggie) but I and others have wired them as DRLs. My thought is that they are better ON than what I had before, which was nothing during the day. They also add a new mesh grille to reduce the ingress of leaves and cigarette butts to the radiators (the butts are the worst problem around town!)
The Boxster spars may be a reality soon, depending on how his group buy on Planet 9 is going, but it seems as if it costs a lot to get the injection molding done, so he has to get quite a bit of commitment before he can start production. That being the dilemma of very small scale production.
thanks,

I really, really, like those. So if I'm reading this correctly, along with all the Google searches I've done, there's nothing currently available for a base 981. I'm getting that right?

Correct. The guy who made the LED spars for 987 said that they were looking into the 981 and evaluating development costs for 981, but nothing concrete yet.

So I got the new Led spars put on. So my question now is do they stay on all the time when headlights are on on can I shut the led spars off while running the bi xenon headlights? would like the option of turning them off if possible thanks in advance.
