I put 5,000 miles on the 993 per year and change the oil and filters once per year. Don't buy into the hype about oil change frequency...just follow manufacturer recommended intervals. As an ME I really think the issue of oil and engine wear is significantly over-estimated...to the benefit of the oil manufacturers.

In contrast I put over 20,000 miles per year on my daily driver and change at the intervals of 10,000 as stated by the manufacturer. Currently at 115,000 miles on her and zero issues...and frankly I don't expect any.

I too am guilty. The 97 last had an oil-change SEVENTEEN MONTHS and 6500KMs (4000ish miles) ago!

The 95's was last changed at the same time as the 97......I don't even want to admit to the (severe lack of) mileage.

Hmmm. So if I drove 200mi last year I do not need to change the oil just because it has been one calendar year? Interesting. The idiot wrench who told me last oil change he did not change the small oil filter "because it's too difficult to get to" also advised a yearly oil change "use or no use".

Hello E_T,

Easy solution: Drive it more and change oil once a year.

I wouldn't have paid him if he did that to my car.

I change my oil and both filters once a year whether I have 1000 or this years 5000 miles right before winter storage. I see it as cheap insurance to maintain a healthy engine. I do it myself and have to admit, find it enjoyable.

actually, you need to change the oil, and both filters after EVERY drive. Not doing this could cause the car to melt.

Seems OK to me as long as when you do drive it you drive it long enough to bake any residual moisture out of the oil.

I have gone a mere 2500 miles on it. My indie reckons that a change is a waste of money and oil. I had planned to get it changed before putting the car to bed for the winter in October, now I am having second thoughts. I guess opinions will differ. The car is in excellent condition, has just been inspected and had a light service by the OPC and has 23 500 miles on it. Thoughts?*
committing a mortal sin by not changing the oil after just 2500 miles...no

committing a mortal sin for only driving the car 2500 miles in a season, hell yes!

Thanks a lot for the responses to my confession. I'll see if I can get an oil sample sent off to these guys in Indiana, would be very interesting to get an analysis. Hope it can be shipped over without too much fuzz. As to driving the car, there's been a few issues. Har had a very short season, getting it over from the US took forever, and getting it road ready for Europe took about two months, despite the minor things that needed doing (lights and fog light, essentially). Very much my plan to make the car really earn the new oil it surely will get next season, should the oil analysis not suggest otherwise. It just got new belts, and I see a 30 k major service on the horizon.

...oh, and the Koni FSDs and M033s have arrived from Gert, and will hopefully go on this week, along with new bushings from FD Motorsports. Can't wait.
