Ride For Today
Not what it appears to be. Started life as an '87 930, now for PRC GTL ("stock" 3.6L, pretty much free on the suspension, Goodyear bias plys, regeared 915, and 2350 lbs. min w/ driver).

Well, back and somewhat awake now.
Make no mistake that while this is an easy car to drive, it's incredibly taxing relative to what we have come to enjoy in our 993s. Steering, braking, and shifting all fall into place; but oh do I enjoy the hydraulic and vacuum assists, as well as mechanical advances in transmission gear selection. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, take a step forward to today's car and how can someone look at a 993 as anything but stone age.)
Bottom line, we can spend all our time talking about gearing and rear suspension differences (see other threads), yet at some point you still have to: 1. drive the car, 2. deal with the limitations we have as amateurs. That said, with the (unexpectedly) decent tires that were mounted, Scott went out and almost immediately hammered out a mid-1:51. I tip-toed around with a 2:02 in my first 5 laps. Second time out I got a couple of clean laps and sleep-drove to a 1:54. After lunch, when the track was definitely hot, two clean laps were 1:53.8 and 1:53.1. (We ran the Thunderhill Bypass config.) The pace, for me, was cruiser speed as of course it's not my car. Ultimately, compare that with ~2:00 in my 993. There was an '11 GT3RS out on fresh Hoosiers that was on a consistent 1:58 pace.
Oddest thing I came away with was an eerie similarity this car has to one of my old customer's fake 3.0RSR. If I didn't know this car had a 3.6, I would have said 3.0, tops. You really have to be in the right gear. And though it's got the same power output as my yellow car, and is 700 lbs. lighter, data shows both cars top out down the front straight pretty similar--127 for this car, 125 for mine.

Front hood? Allow air to exhaust away from the coolers. (Two 964 cooler siamesed, in this case.)
We've also got some data coming. Turns out Scott went a bit quicker down the front straight than his last time out (9.X total hours in anger on the car so far), so he's improved to 132. But I bailed at 128--not my car, haven't driven this track in a year, AND the last time I'd driven my session/day came to an abrupt end against the inner wall at Laguna T7...........
