Made it to Reno!!!
What a Day!!! Left Monterey at 7:00 for another early start since we had a Wine Tour and tasting at Robert Mondavi Winery at 10:00 AM. It may been early but seeing the lines orf traffic as we were heading out will tell you we were wise.
Had a wonderful lunch at Tra Vigne, then headed out to Reno, arriving at 6:00 PM for another great day driving with unbelievable sights. Who knew Reno was so high in the elevations?! We climbed over 7000' above sea level and saw the temp guage climb a bit as well, cruising at 70 MPH and holding up traffic some of the time was incredible but made for fast runs. . . There were some great twisty places along Route 101 which was surprising including through the trees and the hills, wonderful day. . .
We are quite tired today so going to bed early and another early rise. . . later. . .
Here are some pics of our day. . .

Still Goin' Strong!!!
We had a wonderful drive today, a little boring at times but then the big surprise: the Bonneville Salt Flats. I just had to take a spin out to the round-about in the middle of the flats where they race. There was a lot of rain the last couple of days before we got here and the flats were covered with about 4" of water, but it was going down quickly with the 32 degree weather. . .
The roads were great, a little too straight for the Porsche; however great for making time in 75 MPH Speed Zones. I stuck to the limits due to the high temperatures and a loaded car, saving it for the twisties back home!!!
Car is running fantastic thanks in no small part to the well sorted condition Chuck has kept it in. Thanks, Chuck. Drives like it is on rails. . .
Now I know why Garth likies the Vario Ram 3.6 so much! ! !
We are having a wonderful trip, there is a lot to see even in the desert and we have a million photos so far but limited to what we can put in here.
Adding some more pics right now so you arm chair drivers can enjoy the trip with us. . . .

Leg 4 - Salt Lake City - Cheyenne, Wyoming 9-4-12
Got an early start and were rewarded handsomely with a winding canyon drive at 75 MPH. The road construcion was heavy, but most of the repaving was being done at night so it was easy driving for the most part. The speed limit has been dropped from 75 to 65 in the work areas - back home we would have been crawling. . .
Passed through Coaltown today where there is the largest open pit copper mine in the world, yoiu can see a pic of the car overlooking a dam where water from the mining has built up. . . .
Had a surprise view of several large windmill farms you will see in the pics. I counted over 200 in one farm alone but a great use of space since there is little else out there except for cattle ranchers. A real view of the wild, wild west. . .
Made it to Cheyenne at 1:00 PM in record time. At 80 you can put a lot of ground behind you in a hurry. There were a few that were still not happy and were duely rewarded with citations. . . .
Check out the 8' boot Joanne is trying on in front of The Wrangler in Cheyenne, and the Iron Horse as well as a little history from the plaques from the old days. . .
Had to visit a glass shop in Cheyenne and for $63.00 they made a rock chip disappear from the windshield. I expected worse so we have been lucky so far. . .
Car wash, windshield repair, and full of gas. . .ready for the next big run to Omaha, Nebraska, close to 500 miles. Another early start so we get rest for each day as we move along.
Great ride so far and my Navigator is doing well with the speeds now that we are away from the heavy traffic of LA. . . . and she has had 2 days of 2 hours behind the wheel in the 80 MPH club on the long and winding trail . . . .
Happy Trails.
