It's that time of year when I consider selling my 993
Trying to downsize my stable. Am getting rid of my X5M which is coming off lease.
I still have the Escalade (mountain machine, snowboard and ski people mover,) and the 911's (993 C2S and 997 Turbo.)
In all fairness, I do consider selling my 993 about every six months, lol.. And I haven't yet after 11 years of ownership.
But I'm thinking about a two car stable. Keep the Escalade and sell the two 911's and maybe pick up a pre-owned R8 Spyder (most likely the 4.2.)
3 cars is one car too many. I need a big vehicle (the Escalade) and the 993 can't be an every day car. The clutch is way too stiff (RS Clutch.)
So my options seem to be:
A) Keep 3 cars. Make the 997 Turbo my daily driver. Use the 993 as the toy. And continue having the pain in the *** of owning too many cars.
or
B) Sell both 911's and get an R8 Spyder 4.2 Manual that I would use as my daily driver. (Or something else cool..)
any thoughts?

Either decide to sell it and list a price, or don't sell it and delete this thread. The rest is up to you, and only you know what works best for you and your needs/tastes.
Good luck

"B-Line, don't sell it, that's an amazing 993 and you'll never be able to replace it"
"B-Line, you've had that car for 11 years, you must be tired of it by now. Sell it and get something new"
"The R8 sucks"
"The R8 is awesome"
etc.
Sometimes perspective can help. And while I can and already did guess some or many of the potential responses from this forum, I'd still like to read them to help me shape my mind.
And don't worry 993 seekers, if and when I'm ready to sell my baby, I'll let you know!

The R8 is a mediocre track car but is an AWESOME daily driver... stunning looks, a great sound, and a reliable comfortable Audi backbone... love it.

What about change the clutch in the 993 to something more liveable for a daily driver?

The economics don't work. I'd be cash out of pocket just to buy the 4.2 (selling both 911's,) let alone another $30k for the 5.2.
More importantly, I find my 993 to be much more fun than the Turbo. With the Turbo, I drive it constantly like I have to hold it back or I'm gonna lose my license. With the 993, I can have my foot in it all day.
I'm thinking, with a 4.2, I'll be able to be a bit more full throttle with it. With a 5.2, I'll experience the same problem I have with the Turbo which is always holding it back. Not to say I won't have to hold back the 4.2, of course that car is still a beast, just not as much as I would have to with the 5.2.

And you can't escape Valet in LA.
And I also feel for a daily driver, I want something more modern. Even in 1996-1998 most people didn't use their 993's as daily driver. It's 15 years later!
I would argue, while the 993 can be used as a daily driver, it wasn't until the 996 that a 911 truly became a comfortable DD.

...There are guys on this forum who have known me since the day I started my 993 search back in 2001. It helps sometimes to see and hear other people's thoughts:
"B-Line, don't sell it, that's an amazing 993 and you'll never be able to replace it"
"B-Line, you've had that car for 11 years, you must be tired of it by now. Sell it and get something new"
"The R8 sucks"
"The R8 is awesome"
etc.

"The R8 sucks"

etc.
And here comes the perspective you're looking for...
You're ******* mad to even concider selling the 993. Might aound harsh but it's the truth.
You don't need to sell it, the "pain in the ***" of owning 3 cars is really a pain in the ***...
We're talking "1st World" problems here, get over it.
Seriously, your 993 is really. Ice and 11 years is a long time, it's part of the family by now, so when it feels like PITA, get over it.
My advice, if you need to do something, is to sell the 997 TT and replace that with the R8 as the DD.
Cheers,
Petu

Sell the Escalade, the 997 and the 993.
lease a new G-wagon and find a used 997 GT3RS or 4.0L
FWIW, i have over 20 cars and the 993 will never leave the flock... Im looking to add another actually.

I'm one of those who remember "B" from the couple of days after he got his 993 (and still lived in Miami), cool guy and glad to see living his dream in West Coast (you were talking about it back then).

It's been a long time... Hope things are well with you!
Just to be clear, I wouldn't be selling the 993 because owning 3 cars is too much work, I'd be selling the 993 and the 997 Turbo to be able to afford the R8 Spyder.
If I had the budget for the R8 Spyder and to keep the 993 C2S, I certainly would.
Yes, I could hold onto the C2S and just trade out the Turbo (even money) for something else as a DD, but nothing really speaks to me right now. The R8 Spyder looks bitching. But I would need the equity from both 911's to afford a pre-owned R8 Spyder.
One less car to insure. One less car to register in California (which is VERY costly) and one less car to maintain.
The Turbo was bought when the C2S was going to become more track dedicated but then the economy collapsed and I stopped tracking. They both now serve the same relative purpose.
And with 993's becoming so sought after, I'm not gonna convert the C2S to a track beater.
I should also mention, one of the things that got me thinking: After 24 years of ownership, I drove my dads 911 (my dad passed in 1996 and my brother held onto the car,)
1989 Turbo-look Cabriolet - to a consignment dealer in Newport Beach yesterday. It's leaving the family. This is the car I learned to drive stick on.. lol.
And my daily driver lease is ending.
