Owned my car eight hours, more drama than expected.
So I took delivery of my first 993 today. A tip cab delivered via closed truck from half way across the states. Driver dented top of fender hoping around the car. No big deal, dentless repair will hopefully fix it.
Second problem After a few starts the the key gets stuck in ignition and the car will nto shut off. Thankfully I didn't go nuts on it and break it off. Read the good stuff on this board and figure out it was the tiptronic shifter apparently not fully in park. Move the car in and out of park and reverse and finally it worked. Hasn't happened again (thankfully).
Power top worked great a few times. Tonight got caught in rain, pulled over to gas station and only driver side wanted to go up with power. Passenger side of top acted like it was caught on something. I read the manually, took out the tire tool and turned the bolt the recommended 4 times each and it was free. Now I have a manual top unless i want to fiddle with the mechanism.
Hopefully that is all for now. Its been an interesting 8 hours.
Will post photos soon.

See - Rennlist (and this forum) helped you not freak out about your (new to you) awesome 993!
Separately - how did the driver dent the bumper? And I hope you plan on reporting it to the company - they are liable for their employee's actions.

Dude...let's face it...
Porsche hasn't sold a standard 993 for over 10 years, roughly 1998. There will be teething problems....BUT, once they are solved, it is will probably turn out to be the best car you have ever owned...it's been that way for me.
I bought my 1997 993 C2 Grand Prix white coupe in December of 1999. I paid $65,000 for it...that was the selling price in 1997...But, like you, I had the fever, had to have one so I stepped up and paid the price. It had lots of extras:
1. Option 220 LSD and Drive Block
2. Litrronic Head lights
3. 18" hollow spoke wheels
4. 17,000 miles
5. One (1) owner
6. All records, what few there were
7. Grand Prix White, the German Racing color
It was all worth it. To this day...I can't think of another car I would buy. I have put about 65,000 miles on the car in 12 years. Then I got the track "bug": To date I have:
1. Done the routine maintenance, maybe over done it,
2. Added steel synchros, replacing the brass synchros,
3. Replaced a leaking air conditioner line
4. Changed out the Dual Mass flywheel to a 993 RS model with RS clutch 50,000
miles ago
That's it.....and the car makes it to the track about 6 times a year.
But in closing in must confess, I have added:
1. Ruf (secondary) oil cooler, a must have for any track work, and for those
**** about engine temperatures.
2. ERP front camper plates
3. ERP Camber links
4. ERP toe links...now just need the ERP kinematic toe links
5. PSS 9 suspension, rebuilt to factory specs,
6. 993 RS sway bars 23mm front, 20mm rear,
7. Tarrett Engineering drop links
8. Semi-lightweight ANDIAL flywheel and 993 RS clutch and pressure plate,
9. Heigo bolt in/weld in roll cage
10. 993 RS carpet kit
11. 993 RS door panels
12. Deleted the engine compartment heater blower
13. Race seats
14. 993 RS motor mounts (2)
15. 993 RS transmission mount (1)
16. Porsche Factory Short Shift Kit from FD Motorsports
17. FD Motorsports Platinum Rod
18. FD Motorsports sports Stage 1 mufflers
19. Fabspeed X pipes and 200 cell cats, and the car passes
Calif. smog. and 103 dB at Thunderhill Raceway.
20. Manual on/off switch for the oil cooler fan
21. Removed the CD player,
22. Removed all the speakers
20. RLC Data Logger...see www.rlcracing.com It is an over the top upgrade
for track work. I also have sensors for oil pressure and oil temp, with
the appropriate warning for too high or too low conditions. Of course it
provides:
A. Shift light
B. Last lap completed time
C. Best time of the session and how close or far away you are from
meeting or beating this best time
D. Gear position, 1 through 6,
E. At the close of the sessions you see all your lap times, lap by lap.
21. GT 2 fron splitters,
22. 993 RS Side skirts
23. Porsche Aero Kit 1B tail
Off line you have complete data analysis of all the weekend's the sessions with your lines over laid on Google Maps/Google Earth. I have not tried this feature yet...just got home from 2 days at the track. Will try it this week.
But, I still have power windows, power sunroof (It has't been opened it 10 years) working factory air conditioning..and that is staying....as I was saying, just a little stock 993....BUT, had I not been on Rennlist, none of this would have happened. Rennlist put me on the slippery slope...and I am happy that it happened. Thanks Rennlist!!!!

Wow, rough start...
I would keep the top in manual mode, as boman993 said
You actually had some luck there. Part of the top bow often snaps. The cost of repair, if this happens, is quite high
Enjoy the car!

That sucks having those issues with a new to you car. But, it can only get better...
Welcome and congrats. And, I'd see about getting a full body shop estimate on the dent, it's bound to be higher, and see if you can claim that-then try the paintless dent guy.

It doesn't sound so bad at all. The only real problem is the cab top but it's also very common. It's a good chance that the passenger side transmission got disconnected due to cable got shortened. And even with a new cable, it'll happen again in a few years for no obvious reason, probably a bad design. If you want to fix it, search for how you can shorten the cable housing (so the cable can protrude more to reach the gear). You handled the "problems" so well though. Enjoy the car.
