My 993 brethren, my faith is being sorely tested.

Ed, please add the following:
1. What you already have into the repair of your 993.
2. How much you will lose selling it after you get it right enough.
3. Time and money spent looking for another 993.
4. Over paying for the next 993 to get one like the one you sold.
5. Mods and fixins to the next 993.
....

Okay Ed...Nice and easy now...Put the Civic key down and back away slowly...Now sit down, close your eyes and think:
Lite Beer or single malt scotch?
Barry Manilow or John Lee Hooker?
Madonna or Etta James?
Oprah! or Weeds?
Antiques Roadshow or Top Gear?
GA 400 or Wolf Pen Gap?
Now, take a deep breath...
Civic or 993?

My 8 year old son asks me relentlessly to take him for a ride in the 993. When we're riding in it,I'll let him shift for me every so often. We'll also spend the time together talking about mostly Porsches but often all types of cars. It is without question something that I cherish immensely and I suspect and hope that for him I am creating memories that he will someday look back on and say "my love for cars started when my dad and I used ride in his Porsche. I was just a kid but he would let me shift every so often. We'd talk about cars and he taught me about Porsches. I thought it was about the coolest thing ever." Perhaps he'll one day be the owner of this car that we loved so much when he was a kid. Maybe he'll have a son and instill in him this love of cars while they ride together in the Porsche his dad gave him. Who knows, but a dad can dream right?
Now i ask you, would these experiences and memories have been created if we had driving a Civic? I think not....keep the faith!

Any body own a hotel? Quad and Goof need a room....again. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Come on, a statement like "aww, are you gonna cry?" really has NO place here.
I beg to differ. People go and buy a new car because it is "easy"....no maintenance, no deciphering the whim of the German engineer when debugging issues, no long nights in the garage busting knuckles chasing that dropped bolt deep in the bowels of the flat-6, none of that commitment to keeping these rolling art displays alive and well.
And the original comment didn't say that one couldn't have "character" without a 993, just that 993 owners (as with many other older cars, really) require a bit of a (different) character to own.
Alternatively, just look at the Characters you've met here.....shows you need "character" to own one of these. Doesn't say what kind of character however...![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
ps. Quad, your occasional role as "Board Curmudgeon" is actually appreciated and is a good counter point & reality check to the "aren't these the most awesome cars ever made and nothing is nor ever will be better" folks.

Keith, Quad is in his 20s. Like most young kids, he already thinks he's an expert on everything.
I agree I usually like his counterpoint to the 993 Kool-Aid mentality that can sometimes pervade around here, but he also kinda reminds of the type that would hit the lottery and then complain about having to pay taxes on the winnings
