Default DailyDrivers: what's your oil change interval?

Just wondering what you folks do. I now have 137k miles and she drives as strong and tight today as when I first got her in 2001; I truly cannot imagine a better daily car! So as I am contemplating my impending oil change, I am wondering what your oil change interval is on your daily driver 993? ...obviously the weekend/special-use guys will have different regimens.

The reason I ask is that I know what I've done for these many years, but am now wondering if I have been over-zealous in my oil-change maintenance ...yeah, I know I know, "cheap insurance" is the mantra, but just because it makes us "feel better" doesn't mean the frequent changes aren't a waste of money and oil? So what say you? And FWIW, I am using Mobil 1 and factory filters. Looking forward to hearing what your interval is.

I DD my 993 C4S and change the oil with Mobil 1 about every 5000-7500 miles. I drive about 6K a year....

She's not a DD, but she's no garage queen either... I'm at the same interval as GBD. 109K and engine is still smooth as butter and strong. Have only used two breeds of oil, Redline and M1.

My change interval is about the same as goofballdelux but I'm racking up at least twice the miles per year. I've put on 6K since Feb.

Gerber Racing, who did my PPI, was given this question while I waited on the PPI to be completed..they asked how I was going to use the car, "Daily driver, probably 12-15,000 miles per year and 6-10 DE's if I can help it." They said annually is sufficient, which I was a little surprised to hear..but then again, most enthusiasts change their oil way too much by modern standards and we have very robust oiling systems compared to most other cars on the road.

Hi

For a daily driver I think 6 monthly is good, especially if you are aiming to keep the car for the long term.

Since becoming my daily driver at 39K, I have changed oil 5 times until the top end job at 75K. I used either Mobil 1 or Swepco during this time. When the top end was done, I had to hard weld 1 cam lobe and recondition both camshafts. I think 7.5K was too long for my type of driving.

Since the top end job, I no longer have to top up the oil between changes. No new additives are going in with the oil between changes. So I have decreased the oil change interval to 5K and swapped to Brad-Penn (thanks Steve Weiner).

Joel Reiser was the first to touch my car, he reccomended 5K oil change intervals, the local (ex dealer)Pcar indy told me 10K was good enough. I have put 25K on the car in two driving seasons(can't forget winter months here in Central New York), and I usually do 6K intervals.

I'm running low on M1, only got enough for 1 oil change left...

Once a year, or 2x a year depending on how I'm driving. Usually it's around 6-8kmi.

And the million dollar question; has anyone done oil analysis or are the change intervals determined by speculation and/or warm fuzzy feelings?

Planning on having mine checked at around 12,000 miles, and I predict it will still be in good shape. I think someone once said Mobil1 is one of the most wasted substances in the automotive world..

One has to wonder.

Well considering my 993's oil temperature never makes it above 200F (according to the pic below, source: p-car.com, and my needle is at or a needle-width above the 194F mark), the oil certainly isn't being worked hard. I'm surprised it is that low; I would have thought more like 220F during regular driving.

So I doubt my 993's oil is wearing out any faster than on my DD or any other car where change intervals are 12,000 miles or more. My 993's oil gets changed based on "time". My daily driver's oil gets changed based on mileage.

I haven't worn out an engine yet.
