I believe the "anti-drive-off feature" is the immobilizer, although there is/was an option for an infrared component added to the immobilizer system. The idea was security for the open chassis 993s. Or sun roof .....

PS,, Great C4S find. Welcome.

I'm intrigued with the "anti-drive-off feature." Does this mean no immobilizer from the factory?

Enjoy your 993 in good spirits!

Love the post. I can sympathize with the finger situation. My son, at age 4, slammed his middle finger in the back door. My wife drove faster and ran more stop lights than I care to count as I held his finger together and up in the air. He was not as blessed to keep his as you were. He lost the very end and nail. Amazing to watch him now, age 20, as he does things without even thinking about it being gone.

Love the car! I think a series like this would be fun to read for each of us who do things personally on their cars.

Enjoy!

Nice C4S! Are you missing stone guards on the fenders? Can't see them in the pictures.

Hi guys, thank you for the posts..

There are stone guards on the rear bumpers .. I think the picture lighting just isnt showing them.

The car is currently at pretty close to ROW height.. I'll get some better pictures once I get it off the lift in the next few weeks.

actually, inspired by NYC993 's picture in his footer.. i have the wheels out to be refinished and am going with kind of a dark charcoal - not black - not silver. I think somewhere along the way someone had used some break cleaner or something and the wheels are a bit rough looking. hoping for a big improvement in the next week.

and Ceetwo2 - wow - sorry your son had to go through that. my big problem - as explained by the hand surgeon people - was that it was a crush - the bone in the last inch and a half of the finger was just a cloud of broken shards of bone. its amazing really it healed at all. whew.

warm here today - 50+ ! going to get some time in the garage putting pieces back together. exhaust going back on, cat back in , maybe clean up engine bay a bit more while the air box and blower are out of the way.

I didn't think Polar was an option in 1998 - I know in 1997 it wasn't.

I did a fair amount of cleaning before everything went back together...

I kind of felt like this was polishing a turd.. but .. it looks a lot better than when i started. does anyone ever just paint these ? or is there any reasonable way to make them look better ?

The Fabspeed CAT is a thing of beauty .. felt really wrong bolting this to the crufty old exhaust .. but it still sounds great ..

New valve cover gaskets in , new spark plug wires attached.. and new rotors/distributors up top. I have to tell yah.. she fired right up on the first turn of the key.. which felt great after three months of project work.

I didnt really have all these parts sitting around the whole time.. just assembled everything kind of where it was going to go back on .. lots of parts and pieces came off.. oh and the dry wall board.. somewhat to soak up spray and spills.. but also seemed to be warmer than laying on the cement when it was 10 degrees outside.. the garage is heated .. but the floor stays mighty cold..
