Smile How to repair broken 964 & 993 window switches

Switch number 964.613,621,00 is slightly different from the older model 911 switches. They have pin connectors for a dedicated wire plug unlike the older cars that had generic paddle connections on the switch backs. For this reason the replacement switches are very expensive.
In most cases the pivot on one side of the rocker paddle shears off causing the switch to malfunction.
The aftermarket replacement switches are of much lower quality and are of different construction then the originals.
It turns out you can pry off the switch bezel from the original OE switch body and gain access to the paddle handle. I drilled a hole half way through the paddle at the missing pivot point and inserted a nylon rod in the hole to recreate the pivot. I got the nylon rod from an Edible Arangement basket where it is used to hold the fruit in place. The internal electrical rockers are only exposed to wear from electrical use on one side. When reassembling the switch they can be reversed bringing the unused contacts into use.
Seeing that the original switches can last 15 years or longer vs. the aftermarket switches that seem to last just a few years the above fix should last a long time!
Andy

Pics, I want to see pics!

This sounds like a great idea. 2/3 of my window switches are in the same state of rocker awkwardness.

Thank you for the post, I had never even though of repairing them.

The reason I used a nylon pin is because if somthing fractures I do not have to be concerned about any short outs from a metal part,

Did mine with the nail. So far it has performed just like new.
