Default Fister stage III's installed, my thoughts

Just wanted to share my opinions about the stage III's compared to stage II's as I had experienced both. Started with the II's being conservative, middle aged dude who has had his fair share of loud exhaust cars growing up. Time for something mellow. II' are definitely mellow. They have a nice little bark when you fire up which settles to a gurgle at idle. Once underway, the mellow exhaust noise is overcome by wind, road noise at around 40mph. So cruising at 40- 60mph, 2000 - 3000 rpm, no exhaust noise can be heard. I wanted to hear something while cruising, so the stage II's were sent back for the stage III's. The III's have a very sharp bark at fire up and settles to healthy deep gurgle at idle. But it is nothing too crazy. Once underway it is noticeable that the III's are louder than the II's but once again not too crazy, quite pleasant actually. At cruising speeds, the exhaust note is there but not blaring. In fact, windows up, cruising at highway speeds exhaust note is just barely perceptable. Perfect.

Of course this is just my humble opinion, based on my ears sitting in the drivers seat of my stock 97 Carrera with motorsound option, undertray installed. I have no impressions what the car sounds like on the outside to others yet.

FD motorsports was a pleasure to work with, and will recommend them to others.

Wolfgang

I concur, the "bark" and gurgle just get's better when you get on the throttle, and before you know it, you can feel the rear end kick out on the C2S! I am thoroughly enjoying the IIIs on my car.

There's no word to describe the joy and silly grin on my face when I hear the crackles and pops during accel, between shifts, decel, etc. Stage III is the perfect exhaust for me.

At 993Fest, we did an informal 'sound-off' of various exhausts. Granted until recently I'd been in the 'Murican fire-breathing V8 camp, but even Supercups I didn't find to be nearly as loud as people made them out to be..you guys are just old.

It looks to me like you used Nylock style lock nuts on your clamps. Those will eventually heat up and melt causing the nut to work itself off. I learned the hard way. Need to use distorted thread style lock nuts. I'd also put washers inbetween the clamp and bolt head and nut like the factory does.

Good catch, they have no business being there.

Let's hear it for the Stage III's "Bark & Gurgle, Snap, Crackle & Pop"!

Have to at least start up my stage IIIs every day to hear them. Couldn't be happier.

I used to smile every time I drove the 993.
Now that the Stage-3s are on it's become an ear to ear grin.
They just add to the buzz!

Stage 2s are awesome, we are just getting too old to hear them. Stage 3s are perfect since my hearing aid can pick up the pops and gurgling.

A month ago I installed stage IIIs and am very pleased with the sound. Just right. Two days ago I upgraded to a SW chip and I could swear the exhaust is now quieter. Am I just imagining this or could the timing advance in the mid-range rpms quiet down the exhaust? Anybody else have he same experience?
