I contacted him last night and questioned his description as well, suggesting he may want to be sure of his facts in case anyone challenged his honesty via a complaint. He replied to me a little bit ago that he changed the description-he did by an addendum toward the bottom, and said he was contacting BHP for clarification.

^^^ yes, he wrote me back and said he had a Bill of Sale addendum to the window sticker from BHP showing they installed the Turbo Tail and Turbo Splitters. I told him his splitters were RS and the tail was aftermarket since the factory tail doesn't have a third brakelight in it .. I asked him if he wouldn't mind sending me a scanned copy of that so I could read it for myself.

I sent him a message and he did reply with a very courteous message saying he was looking into it more. Sounds like when it was sold to him, it was labelled as BHP upgrade. I think he's confusing "BHP worked on my car" with "BHP 1-of-5 widebody cabs"....

Actually, looking at the "AutoCheck Vehicle History Report" in the eBay listing, its lived in NJ, FL and VA....strange that BHP would have ever worked on it at all. Sounds like someone (before the current owner most likely) crafted up a fairytale....

To his credit, he's added a note to his offering and his reply to me was quite nice. IF he was trying to make up a story, generally this is the point that the seller proves himself an *** trying to defend his position.... So I think this guy was horribly misled or is just way under-informed, but probably not trying to mislead anyone.

^^^ well, I'd love to give him the benefit of the doubt. He knows his car isn't the correct model year, vin number or sold new by BHP .. what's stopping him from changing the listing description at this point except wanting to misrepresent the car to inflate the value. I wish I was wrong ..

No doubt he was civil. But, it is either in his best interest, or a potential buyer's, to accurately describe the car. He shoulda cancelled until he got his ducks in a row, and started over.

At the end of the day, I too think he was misled or jumped to too quick of a conclusion-but he still holds on to hope.

Last communication last night ... this should be interesting if he actually posts the documents:

I am in Boston on a business trip till Thursday. I will post the BHP document along with the original sticker on this ad so everyone can see it.

Interesting... I missed the Excellence article.

My brother currently owns a 1989, red, factory widebody - whale tail, convertible. I think there were only 10 made.
Can't help but wonder if there are Rennlisters trying to identify it's location these days.
It was our dads and purchased as the second owner in 1991.

With the accident and questionable mods, I wasn't touching this one. An Arean Red/Black Cab is what I'm looking for though.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I've been watching Rennlist for a while now. I inquired about that car (it was originally listed at a higher amount), but didn't get a very nice response back. I must have offended him somehow, but I'm not sure how. He told me I should look else where and I took his advice. Even if he continues to lower it, I won't be dealing with him. It's a shame because he's fairly local, a Rennlister, and has the car I'm looking for. Oh well.

John
