There seem to be two camps. One is the guys with full wallets who pay a lot of money for their tires, the others watch their wallets and look for the sweet spot of cost vs. wear vs. handling.

There are a few cheaper brands that do a good job against the high end tires and save you lots of bucks. Those are the ones that I stick to.

Thanks, Mike. I am currently running Sumi IIIs on my hollow spokes. I came from Pirelli P Zeros (which came on the car). Overall, I think the Sumis are very good value (and I couldn't agree more with your point re: finding a balance in performance/cost in a car that just chews through rear tires). With that said, I also definitely notice the difference in grip coming from the Pirellis (bizarre seeing as Tirerack rates their dry traction the same). I never track the car, but even in spirited driving through some backroad turns I feel that the Sumis feel less stuck to the road. Could it be psychological? I guess. But somehow I doubt it. I think I'll re-up on the Sumis for my hollow spokes when the time comes, but I wouldn't mind upgrading on the RUFs. So, the debate in front of me now seems to be which of Tirerack's top 4 to go with.

Any more perspectives on choosing between these would be appreciated (Tirerack prices in parentheses):

1 - Continental ExtremeContact DWS ($958)
2 - Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position ($1,076)
3 - Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position ($1,076)
4 - Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ($1,314)

Thanks!

I currently have the Hankook V12s, reviews seem to be mixed on Rennlist. Personally they meet my expectations as a street tire, I have no issues buying another set.

I've also used Continental DWs on my Boxster, the wet traction was impressive. Overall great tire for the $ IMO.

My factory hollow spokes are running Potenza RE050A Pole Position, for the price point I wouldn't re-buy, I'd step it up and just get Michelins if your starting to look at top tier tires. Had PS2s in the past and they are great, I heard MPSS are even better!

The Continentals seem to beat the Hankook's in Tirerack's ratings virtually across the board and the price difference is marginal (I have to double check but I think less than $10-20/tire). Any points in favor of the Hankooks vs. the Continentals?

I have never owned continentals , so there's nothing good or bad I can say about them, as for the hankooks I have bought 8 sets in the last 18 moths from 17's to 19's and to me they are a good tire for the buck, I like the look, price and street performance ....

To correct my other post, I've only used the Contis DW not DWS. I really like the DW but again that was on the Boxster which is a totally different driving car, it's a really tough choice vs. Hankook V12s. If very close in price I'd prob go Contis.

My car is setup pretty low so right now the Hankook V12s work for me since it has a very sleek edge, almost stretch like appearance. I'm pretty sure with the Contis I would rub in the rears.

Default 19'' Tires

Thinking of running Ps2 rear 315/25/19 & Super Sport fronts 255/30/19, 25.2'' & 25.1'', want a wider front, not available in Ps2.

This is the same size that I run on my Ruf wheels. I am using Toyo T1R tires, which some hate, but they work well for me. Be careful when mixing tires on your car... sometimes its OK, and sometimes its bloody awful. Ask tire rack if those two tires can be mixed.
