Default 993 tires

Any updates to a thread for a year ago regarding 993 tires? I've got Bridgestone Potenza RE50 & need new rears. I don't want to drop the coin on these again & want to change to something less than $200/tire. Read some good reviews in here about Sumitomo HTRZ3 & BFGoodrich GForce. Driving habits - DD a very short distance to & from work, only get down on a couple corners & straightaways when the soccer moms arent standing in their yards looking for me. Front Bridgestones still good for a while, how bad is it to have different fronts than rears? Thanks a ton - new to the Porsche lifestyle for about 2 months now (96 993 just purchased) & read Rennlist every day.

I bought Hankook evo v12's all the way around. Very inexpensive and very quite on the street. I would not mix brands.

I had old PZeros on the front and Assimetricos on the rear...they were wery squirrely and unpredictable. Don't think it's a great idea to have different type/age tires on the car. I just switched to Michelin Pilot Super Sports and the difference is night and day.

Had P Zero Neros on the C2, and rears needed replacement (8" on the front and 10" on the back). Identical replacement tires aren't in production now so there's the delimma. Still lotsa tread on the front and it killed me but I got all four Pilot Super Sports. Figured I committed to keeping the car in great shape and would have worried about hard country road driving episodes.

Probably best to bite the bullet.

I've got a few thousand miles on my Hankook V12s, and must say, great value
for the money. Grippy in dry and wet, and very quiet. You'll find the
BFGoodrich GForce KDWs get really loud and howl like crazy.

Default Tires

I've had bad experiences mixing tires, +1 on the made car very squirrelly. Had very good experience w/Sumitomo HTZ III (only $120 rears @ Tire Rack). If you go to Tire Rack site you can look at tire tests to compare mentioned tires, I find very helpful (but keep in mind tests usually w/3 series BMW).

Really have liked my Sumitomo HTRZ-IIIs. One of the best tires around, and a great value too.

IIRC Tire Rack gave the edge to the Hankooks over the Sumi HTR ZIII if you need wet weather performance.

+1 on the Hankook Evo's. Just ordered two replacements for my rear. Not sure what kind of mileage you guys are getting on your rears, but I only got 10k, which was a little disappointing. But, at abt $200/tire for the rears at Tire Rack its not too painful.

Another vote for the Hankooks. After 2 good months of usage I'm pretty impressed overall esp for the price point.

Also I think they are great looking tires too!

I seem to get about double miles out of a set of fronts as rears. So put another set of RE50s on the back and kill the fronts. Then try again. I ran a set of RE760s last year and wouldn't hesitate to buy them again for a pure street set.
