Default Who Makes the Best RMS / Flywheel Seal ??

Ive been searching and reading all I can find about RMS /Flywheel seals.

Im almost done pulling the tranny on my new-to-me 95 993 Cabrio to repair the RMS leak. I need to order the rest of my parts so am hoping to get some feedback on what seals I should have the best luck with being leak after install.

Im comfortable with the needed precautions to take installing it. Just want to make sure I get a good quality seal.

I have an order in with Sunset for an OEM Porsche seal. I assume this would be of high quality, but wanted to see there are any educated Rennlist members willing to part with their wisdom on the subject.

Is there a better seal on the market compared to the OEM part? Other brands to consider, or avoid?

David,

We are pretty picky about such things and I try to avoid Elring seals when I can due to QC issues.

I use high-quality Viton seals as they tolerate heat better than anything else. A factory one will work.

Never had one single problem with Victor-Reinz products
Installed and sold many VR rear main seals

Porsche doesn't make their own seals/gaskets
Not sure who makes the RMS for Porsche the boxed version for 993
Never dealt with Elring seals, at least on Porsche

Steve,

One more question for you. I just got the old seal out and its the black Kaco part with Porche writen on it. From looking at Pelicans website, its the same seal they sell, with the exception of the last digit

Seal in car 999 113 426 40, Seal Pelican sells ends in 41 which I suspect is a new revision of the part.

I ordered my OEM Porsche seal from Sunset which should be delivered any minute now via UPS.

Ive run across enough bad reports on the all black Kaco seals that it concerns me a bit

Is this the OEM seal you are having success with? If so, I'll just install it. If not, can you tell me what the part you use is? If I have the right part, hope to get it installed here in an hour or two.

Happy Friday!

David
