Default 993 seats....

no matter how much i keep playing with adjustments...I have to come to the conclusion that the stock non-sport seats in my 993 S#*K!!
the old recaros in early 90's GTI are 8957 better, so are most sport BMW seats.
I am neither a giant or a dwarf @ 6ft 180, athletic, and even though my car has 40k unmolested miles and the seats are in great condition, they feel both too narrow (top of the back shoulder area) and unsupportive at the same time. I feel I am sinking in an old hammock.

these are the criterias I am looking for:
> supportive (good side to side and decent lumbar support)
>black leather/alcantara is better
>easy to fit (dont mind minor fitting adjustments but nothing major and irreversible)

of what I read, 997 GT3 seats are an easy swap, they are reasonable (compared to hardbacks), offer a quality seating position and update the interior nicely.

I am open to suggestions...recaro, sparco, or even perhaps boxster seats

thanks for the help!

yes, here are a few threads to get you started:

997 sport seats (same as your photo) -> https://rennlist.com/forums/993-turb...n-a-993-a.html

996 sport seats (slightly different rails, same concept) -> https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...stall-diy.html

They'll work. I wouldn't buy any off of eBay if I could help it. (Check my old posts - I got burned bad.) Do a WTB here on Rennlist first. You can also try Pelican. You should be able to find a decent set from anywhere between $1500 - $2500. $2900 seems high for the ones pictured.

If you are going to do these seats, get the install kit so you don't have to bend and cut all of those tabs.

You need to lose 4 inches and 40 pounds - then see how they fit.

an off-the -wall suggestion might be to get a pair of boxster or 996 seats
and add these on for an extra grand or so. way cheaper than that ebay auction.

Had a 996 with the sport seats and didn't think they were that great. They seemed flatter and less supportive in turns. YMMV I wonder if replacing the seat bottom's foam might help. Get back some bounce that time has taken away.

I have the hardback sport seats in my 993. Unfortunately the leather tends to release from the back as it shrinks from age and the rubber bead that holds the leather in place dries out. Replacement leather or rework is more costly than the generally available soft back seats. If I had a choice I would have preferred the soft back seats purely from a service life/cost perspective.

To come to a conclusion that stock 933 seats suck is, of course, possible, but is not helpful. I've driven from California to Boston in mine, for example, and found them to be not very supportive but pretty comfortable even on a 10-hour stretch. By the same token I find most BMW seats, both old and new, are good for about 1-2 hours after which they become simply painful. Their newer sports seats are just impossible to set for a smaller person (I'm 5.9" and 150 lb now).

I now have 996 hardback sports seats in my 993. If you feel that the standard 993 seats are narrow in the shoulders you will simply not fit into 996 or 997 sport hardbacks, period. It's easy to check, though. go to a local PCA autocross and ask people to sit in their cars.

I had a pair of 987 seats but never completely installed them in my 993. They were very comfortable in my opinion but less supportive on the sides than 996 or 997 sport seats.

What I would suggest is a pair of aftermarket Recaros (I had Speed in my previous 993) or Sparco or Cobra or something similar in a reclining padded sport bucket.

The shoulder things look like ears....
I have the Corbeau A4 also. Mine are custom perforated leather in the inserts, and a sub strap hole for the dick harness.

Thanks for the helpful answers....
I was also worried about "fitting" properly in these gt3 sport seats...it just feels like I'm too wide for the structure of the seats. This is the only sport car I've experienced that in. Seems 993 owners can't workout or be larger than say, 5'9 and 160....
I'll look into the corbeau seats...I think I was leaning towards a Porsche seat to keep it as close to stock as possible....
I will definitely post in the wanted section...and continue reading the helpful comments in this thread...but I won't stop working out
