I can really appreciate the desire to reduce heat from the mufflers but has anyone taken a laser heat temp reading to see what the delta really is? If we're talking a couple of degrees then hardly seems with it. It's a fairly thin coating so not sure how effective it is, but what do I know.
It would be tough to do a true test as there are too many variables to control. But, I have an IR thermometer that I can measure surface temps with. I suspect that there is likely a temp diffence from left to right anyway, so mounting one coated muffler, and one non-coated muffler would not be sufficient, and two different cars likely would yield different temps as well.
I went with black velvet on the stage II's, sport cats and tips and am happy with the way they held up. Lost the heat shields on the mufflers but kept them on the cats. No issues with heat.
