It would be tough to do a true test as there are too many variables to control. But, I have an IR thermometer that I can measure surface temps with. I suspect that there is likely a temp diffence from left to right anyway, so mounting one coated muffler, and one non-coated muffler would not be sufficient, and two different cars likely would yield different temps as well.

Ncan you tell I'm an engineer?

Does the coating reduce the temp enough so the exhaust heat shields are no needed ?

BUT, make sure that the heat shield connectors are not removed by grinding them off before coating.

I went with black velvet on the stage II's, sport cats and tips and am happy with the way they held up. Lost the heat shields on the mufflers but kept them on the cats. No issues with heat.

Darin normally removes them before the ceramic coating is done. At least he did on my Stage IIIs and every other coated Stage III I've seen.
