Default New rock chips

I am bumming.
Took the car out tonight with my two sons for dinner.
Easy drive, nothing fast and noticed two huge chips on the hood when I got home. I used dr. Color chip but you can still see the indentation.
I don't think film would have made it much better, you can see where the sheet metal is literally dented around the chips, not more then 1/8" but man it bums me out.

That hood seems to constantly take a beating, almost like the paint is prone to chipping or my driving habits make it prone to happening

Ugh

I had a pretty nice dent on a different 993. I had exact same problem, I couldn't fill it. I spent better part of a day going out every hour adding a bit more. It's never perfect, but a whole lot better. GL!

sorry man, but thats what happens when you drive it.

touch it up best you can and save for the eventual respray.

I have come to that realization, I cant stop driving it, I can see doing a respray once things get real banged up, as of right now the car is pretty pristine except for the hood, I could always get that done first

Todd- rock chips common on 911s... probably best to live with it. But if you want a paintless dent removal guy, I used the guy that comes to new country porsche in greenwich (call new country, they managed the process)- did a great job on my 997. Good luck, Ross

I have read about another option for protecting the hood paint on long road trip or track days.
Try a can of clear Plasti-dip spray ... provides cheap protection and then peel off when you want

If you want it perfect, put it in a museum where it will be safe.

But NOT the Porsche Museum... The good Dr. wanted them driven. The most awesome thing about visiting the Porsche Museum last September was seeing road rash on the various cars. Even the Museum sends them out occasionally for a good thrashing!

Having had a couple of black cars, I am intimately familiar with rock chips

There's some new protective films out there that have a cushioning gel coat sandwiched inside the film.

Just before the run to Limerock last week, I had a heavy duty film applied to the front bumper of the new car, and a medium duty film on the entire hood, entire front fenders, the mirror caps, and the headlights.

I had it done by Lorenzo Glass Tinting in the Bronx. He does a lot of high-end cars, and came highly recommended to me. The job he did is absolutely flawless. He uses a couple of different brands of film so that he can custom-tailor the type of protection you want for your car. If you ever consider going with protective film, give him a call to see what he has to offer.
