Default Ferrari's at the track today...

Gingerman Raceway in South Haven MI hosted the regional Ferrari/Italian club today. Great group of enthusiasts and beautiful cars of course. Hard to say if I would be on the waiting list for one if I had the money to change the oil on one of those beauties...but the point is mute.
When I left the track I never felt like I want for anything more than my 993 offers, except that F40 that keeps haunting my dreams!!!...I will take that!)

Here are a few picts.

Rudy, these guys were telling me about maintainence costs...astronimical for brakes, oil, belts etc...not to mention when "something" really goes wrong. Is that the only F car you had?

Yes Andy that's the only One, I remember when they called me from the dealer and told me my belts were do, so I took it in and a month later they called me and told me that the clutch had 15% of life left and if I wanted them to replace it since they have the engine out already, so I said yes, after 60 days later, yes the car was at the dealer for 2 months, they called me and told me my car was ready, my invoice was $15,200

I don't understand why they need belts replaced all the time? Seems like nothing lasts on these cars or is that just the way they want it?

The belts need to be replaced every 3 years or 15k miles, that's the reason people that own these cars don't drive them, if your F1 transmission pump goes out that's going to cost you $15-$20k, if you need you engine rebuilt you are looking at $35k-$45k, I had to replace a very small water hose, it was about 8" long $500 plus labor, thats why I sold that sucker!

Thanks for the pics Andy!

I was mentioning to someone the other day my desire to get a 360. I'm fully aware of the potential costs yet the itch is still there (360 coupe, non-F-1, sport seats). Funny how you can talk yourself into something......then you read something like above and rethink things. I need one of my neighbors to get a 360.

$15k.... sorry, for wear items like clutch and belts, thats insane. Stuff like that takes all the fun out of owning a car like that. Even if you have the $$.

Hate to tell you, but if the dealer took the engine out of your 360 when your timing belts were due they ripped you off. Both the timing belt change and clutch change on a 360 does not require an engine out service. Additionally, while my 360 is certainly more expensive to maintain than my 993, the last timing belt change on my 360 (every 5 years is sufficient) was $1800 (parts and labor) and my last clutch replacement was just under $4000 (parts and labor). Both services were completed in less than a week.
You must have had a lot of other things done to rack up a $15k bill.

This is typical of the exagerated internet BS regarding Ferraris.
- Factory recommends belt changes every 3 yrs or 15k miles. Most people understand that is overkill. In 20+ years of Ferrari ownership I have routinely followed a 5 yr schedule for belt changes with no issues.
- F1 pump actuator (the part that will fail if anything is going to fail) is $1200 and my 360 still has the original part after 12 years and 47,000 miles. Not one bit of trouble or reliability issues with my F1 system.
- properly maintained 360 engines will last every bit as long as a 993 engine.
-Your water hose may have been $500 if it was a factory part. Admittedly this is the kind of thing that drives Ferrari owners crazy. That's why most owners use Ricambi or some other aftermarket source and a fraction of that cost. It's still just a $20 hose in a $480 yellow box.....you have to be smart on some things with these cars.

In regards to these cars, can you not do dig maintenance? Does everything have to be done at the dealer? That's one of the joys I get working on my 993 is that most things I can complete myself.

Andy
