Any real road experiences with Michelin Super Sport tires on stock 993?

I went "cheap" on tires once...heard good things about Toyo T1R's and put them on my 19" wheels for my Cayman when the OEM contis wore out. I have regretted it ever since. Sure, they Toyo's hold up amazingly well but they neutered the car. I just switched to my other set of wheels which are 18" but have MPS2 and its amazing the difference, especially turn in, even on the street. I can't wait to replace the Toyo's with MPSS.

You will love the MPSS tires. They made my 993 into a completely different riding and handling car. And this from a very good tire - the Bridgestone S02A,

MPSS is my next setup, since MPS rib N1 is out of production.
Called Michelin beginning of the year at main factory, said that MPSS in 993 sizes, is
produced in the USA not in France. So I will have to order them from T Rack one day.
for the fun of it, every time I come across a totaled 993 in winter, I check the tire brand. The huge majority had pirelli's on, curious.

haha...I bet the car wears out before the Toyos!! They have actually been good tires...I didnt mean to trash them. They never wear out and they are consistent even on the track. I just dont feel like they offer very good grip, and very little turn in feel.

IIRC, most 993's were delivered from the factory with Pirellis, and I'm sure most owners stuck with the brand. So your observation makes sense.

M PSS Report
Here's my wear report to date on my Pilot Super Sports
- Installed November at around 56,000 miles.. now at 61,000 miles
- Street driving, agressive at times, 2 full track days
Pics of the front and rears which i took this morning
First track day - I felt the front get a bit greasy, but think it was more of an issue of my pressures - didnt pay much attention as it was a new car I was tracking + new track - Very grippy - could be one reason they took more heat
Yesterdays track day - Im running 40 all around hot - cold this morning was 32 front 30 rear. Tires were amazing! no overheating and did a great job when pushed - great response. Pacific raceway, seattle hot.. turn 2 which is a 3rd gear carousel the tires had great grip and you could hear them as they were pushed to the limit.. car was very stable and could smoothly throttle steer to setup for the exit - no issue getting on the gas at the apex and rocketing out 911 style.
Wear so far is very good as you can kind of see in the pics.. tires dont roll over at all with the pressures I am running and worked with the tire guys at the track to double check if i had everything right - chalk marks confirmed + grin on my face after the session buddies I was lapping with not so much as I was pulling on them much more now that im getting more comfortable with the car.
Love the tires and think they are a great balance of price \ performance.. will update future track days and mileage.
LMK if you are interested in any details, measurements or pics.

Do you guys in the US get the stock sizes on 18" wheels ie. 225/40 and 265/35 or 285/30?
In the UK the closest we get is 225/45 and 265/40

Just replaced the Sumi IIIs (225/40 and 285/30) on the 97 with a new set of PSSs (225/40 and 265/35). The Sumitomos lasted 3 years and 20000kms (12400ish miles). Unbeatable for the price though I did notice a substantial loss in grip at the rear over the last 2000 miles as well as a fairly dramatic increase in road noise. Both issues seem to be the sign of a tire, of any brand, that is "done."
Right off the bat, I notice a slight improvement in ride comfort with the new Michelins. All other objective observations will come in the next few months. I bought the Michelins because I like to try something new and because they were very reasonably priced when I bought them, at least compared with the PS2s they are apparently replacing.
One observation: the 265/35-18 PSS seems every bit as wide as the 285/30-18 Sumi III when mounted on the same 18 x 10 wheel. Kind of curious if the 285/30-18 PSS will be a bit tight fit relative to the fender of a lowered, NB 993.
Last: in the never ending debate over whether spending top $ on a tire for a street driven 993, I'm curious to see how the performance characteristics of the Michelin hold up over time.

Last time I checked Michelin said they had no plans to make a 285/30-18 PSS

re: old tires vs new - feel \ noise etc.. New will win 90% of the time.. rubber ages and heat cycles are the devil.. it's something you don't notice until you make the change and it will always surprise you. Some of the best drives are the first few weeks with new tires once you burn through the outer layer from manufacturing.
Same idea as with shocks and this gets a bit more complex\interesting.. they have cycles for life and lots of people go over and ride with bad dampening.. I wish they had a little counter on them
