A couple of things.

1. Possible overfill
2. Cracked hoses
3. Loose Clamps

On all four of my 993's I've had the same problem. Usually just tightening down the clamps on the hoses did the trick. In one case a replaced cracked hose was the only remedy.

Be sure to vent out well before doing anything, that battery is too close for comfort!

Must be loose clamps, becuase I put new hoses in and the car is only at 1/2 full of gas. Ill check the clamps! Thank you!

What kind of "gas" smell.

Just to make sure, the smell of gasoline or sulfuric battery acid?

Well timed. I have the same issue. Really strong smell in the trunk.
Have a look at this recent thread, it may help. https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...unk-fixed.html

Well timed as I too have the same issue. I replaced the gas cap rubber seal and now the smell has come back.

So using the link Toto111 posted I will be doing the same next weekend!

Thanks for the post. I've not had much fuel smell, but it is detectable. Did the routine today...all the clamps were loose, we'll see what that does.

Thanks again...

Thanks for the heads up ^^^ my 944 smells of gas a bit but is much harder to deal with than 993. Maybe if I tighten the 993 it will help the 944?

Well I did the DIY for the clamp check...no real smoking gun there, and still have a slight odour after a few days of sitting in the garage. Not as bad but still there.

Not sure where to go from here...

I've done the same and still have the odor. Went through every clamp and hose. It could be the filler neck, not sure.

Maybe its best you guys replace the expansion tank and its hoses? The OP in the link suggested some people did that with great success.

I'm tackling mine in t-minus 5 minutes! LOL
