Default Love the 993, and the cab idea, but...

a 993 cab??

No disrespect to owners as I am an unabashed, faithful devotee of 911 cabs, all the way back to the 80s cabs. Love em big time and would really like one day to own one from the iconic Carrera w/fuchs days!! But as a modern incarnation of the porsche convertible, I have to give the nod to the 997. Obviously more sensuous lines (than the 996) that hearken back to the 993, but with the smooth designed-in-look of a proper folded-down top (which the 996 did bring in) that is simply seamless. Our 993 cabs look "old" to me, and somehow anachronistic to the rest of the fluid lines. But the 997 cab really shines in my book.

Sorry, just musing aloud as I got to oogle one the other day. Unless the lotto happens for me, I guess I'll just have to resign myself to admiring from afar
Anyone here harboring secret 997cab-envy??

Not me. I like the 993 Cab top better, it looks like...well... like a 993 Cab. It doesn't want to look like anything else. The 997 Cab roofline on the other hand, looks more like a coupe wannabe. I love the Coupe lines, as a Coupe; and love the Cab lines, as a Cab. I just wish I could have one of each...

Hey Edward.

I liked the 997 GTS Cab. But not enough to trade my 993 for it. I too like how the top disappears seemlessly. But 993 with the top cover in place still looks good to me, especially from the rear.

You Sir have disrepected me! Just kidding as I agree with you on the 997. I just about bought one a month or so ago.

My complaint about the 993 cab is that it isn't self contained when lowered like the 996 and later generations are--meaning I have to put the boot on, rather than just lowering and driving off. Okay, it only takes a minute, but just a minor annoyance...

Personally I prefer the clean lines of the coupe, but when driving the cab with the top down, can't be beat.

I prefer the 993 cab to the 997. The 997 cab was designed with a hump in the rear deck to allow the top to fit under the "cover." The lines of the 997 aft of the top are, therefore, a bit off to my eye. The 991 has eliminated the hump and the 991 cab looks a lot better than the 997. The 993 cab has a retro appearance that could have been designed in the 1960's. In this context "retro" is good. This is all a matter of taste, of course. I put the 993 cab in the same catagory as the Ferrari 328 GTS. It looks older than it is and people love it (or they don't).

Nope. However, the 991 Cab is another story.

The 991 cab really is great looking. The best one since the 993.

I much prefer the look of the coupe (as cmpared to the cab) in the 993 iteration. That said, if i were going to buy a modern 911 i would definitely get a cab.... No question.

What would we talk about on these forums as far as 993 faults or flaws if the 993 cab top/latches, etc. always worked great.....life would be SO boring......

Half the fun with an old fashioned looking cab top on a 993 is finding solutions to cure its malfunctions and its extra maintenance......making it a manual, replacing elastics, keeping window clear, latch motor recall, micro switch malfunctions, etc....

My cab top is 17 and still hanging in there....patches and all.......)
