Steve posted the steel synchro prices above. $1600 for 1-2 gears alone!

I will play with the ratios some more. I am thinking that a 2.33:1 2nd might be better, but then everything must shift a little lower to compliment the change. The tight corners can lug the engine a bit. I definitely need the low 1st gear, I can barely make it up my driveway as is.
I like my "freeway" gear. I drive from San Diego to Monterey at least 1x per year and enjoy the tall gearing, plus I am trying to reuse at least something to keep the cost down.
I just found some Guard gears for sale for $300 each but they don't have the 2nd gear ratios that I want.
I wonder if I were to have a few sets of steel synchros made if people would want them. Even at prototype quantities it couldn't cost $1600 to make those things.

Just tracked my car, and the gear ratios suck! Maybe we can get a deal if we do two boxes at once?

I used RS ratios for 3, 4, and 5, and left the rest alone. Really like it. Search my past posts on this if you want to know more.

WindyDog,
I think there was an effort to do a group buy for some of these parts in the past.
I am willing to put some effort into the idea since I have more time than money right now, but I think the problem is the custom nature of the re-gears. If EVERYONE wanted say a 1.67:1 3rd gear than we could leverage the larger production run to Albins, Guard or Quaife.
Do you happen to know what gear ratios you would be interested in?

NP993,
I did read your posts. I think I might have read EVERY post on re-gears . My largest frustration is the 2nd gear though. I have a few steep hills near me and I need to rev to 5k rpm to shift into 2nd just to have enough power to keep moving. Plus at autocrosses the 10mph hairpins put me in a bad spot. I have tried shifting to 1st in autocrosses, but it just never translates to better lap times so I end up lugging the motor in 2nd.

I thought I did until I tracked the car. I talked to CMS a while ago and it was 6k to re-gear the car less the LSD for 4 gears. I will get back to you later this week.

I probably would just re-gear 2 3 and 4th. My 2nd gear detaches from the shaft.

The 5 and 6th gears really don't bother me.

I like your gear selections and only one straight cut gear for 2nd. That is exactly the type of box I want. Keeping that long G50/20 6th gear is great!

1st gear: 3.818:1, Stock
2nd gear: 2.250:1, Custom
3rd Gear: 1.560:1, From a G50/21
4th Gear: 1.212:1, From a G50/30
5th Gear: 0.973:1 From a G50/33
6th Gear: 0.775:1, Stock

Here are my ratios:

3.818
2.40
1.77
1.41
1.13
0.921

Its just one mad rush running through the gears. Decel in 2nd has a nice whine. As I said earlier, 6th could do with the 0.821 ratio for cruising. 1st, 2nd and 3rd could probably be spaced a tad further apart.

Starting to call around, and its looking like 7k. Can someone chime in on ALBIN gears VS Guard gears? There seems to be a slight price difference.

I just found these for sale. Quaife gears at closeout prices... almost seems too good to be true. I will need to re-do my excel sheet based around some of these gears. I will call them tomorrow to make sure it's legit.

I remember seeing that when I was looking at gears. After talking with folks at Guard, Rennsport, and RothSport I ended up opting for Guards gears (YMMV). Of course I'm switching out the mainshaft so I can change 1st and 2nd, the dependability of that component was one of my main concerns when deciding.

Edit: Just saw you primarily autocross. Me too Thus why changing 1 & 2 was big on my list. I built out the box with the big track in mind so if I ever venture out I don't need to drop a huge chunk of change to regear again.

Those gears prices are really cheap. My question is the quality. I don't want to put them in the car and have them fail only to pay 2X's.

Looking at a car with these gears - seems like they're extremely short. Driven on the street, will it become more of an annoyance than anything?
1 - 43mph @ 6500 RPM
2 - 59mph @ 6500 - 1700rpm drop
3 - 78mph @ 6500 -1500rpm drop
4 - 98mph @ 6500 - 1300rpm drop
5 - 123mph @ 6500 - 1300rpm drop
6 - 151mph @ 6500 - 1200rpm drop
