Alternator belt help needed
I'm in the process of replacing alternator belt on manual '95 993. The belt I happened to have is a Napa 7300. Napa says that this is the right alternator belt but they also say it's 776mm long. Assorted places that should know better claim that the alternator belt should be 760mm.
So far the belt is on the car, pulley is back together and it seems snug and tensioned OK. I could not start the car as battery was totally dead for the last 3 month so put on a charger. Tomorrow I'll be starting it and checking things. But... Is this the right alternator belt? Or should I get something else?
If so, what's the proper Porsche part number? And what should the proper length be?

IMHO, you should use ONLY genuine Porsche belts, the ones that have "Porsche" script on them. Other belts may appear to fit correctly, but can cause a CEL light--something about the pitch or stiffness of the belt makes the misfire sensors trigger.
Correct belts are: (inner) Porsche 999 192 338 50, (outer) Porsche 999 192 343 50, (AC) Porsche 999 192 363 50 (ContiTech AVX13 X 1085 La)

Thanks, guys. That's the way I read PET as well.
But both NAPA and AutoZone have longer and slightly wider (10mm) belts. Which might just make sense - slightly wider belt would seat higher requiring it to be slightly longer.
I'll probably stop by the dealer tomorrow and pick up another belt to put on or at the very least to have as a spare. CEL would of no consequence as this is an OBD1 car. But I certainly don't want to break the belt on the road if I can avoid it.

Nile, how was doing the belt change?
im either going to do this one myself or leave it to the pros, not sure which route to take. my car also needs the pulley update too...

Considering that I've seen and assisted (yeah, more like distracted the guy doing it) this procedure twice before it was pretty simple.

This morning I went to a local dealership (I _hate_ Herb Chambers Porsche in Brighton) and bought an extra belt. Bought the proper triple square as well. Went to the car, it started immediately with charged battery. Checked voltage - everything's OK.
It was raining and cold, so decided to leave well enough alone. Drove about 40 miles home, re-cheked... and decided to keep the NAPA belt on for now. Will carry the Porsche belt and the new tool with me just in case.
