Moment of Silence for Ferdinand Alexander (Butzi) Porsche
Ferry died right around the time the 996 was introduced, and Butzi dies right around the time the 991 is introduced.
I don't want to get too caught up in the symbolism of this, but it is kind of weird (but probably not from a statistical standpoint).

Never mind, they meant Salzburg Land, not the city. He will be resting in Zell Am See where the family has a home.

RIP Butzi.
Funny you mention that, his aunt, Louise Piech, owned the Porsche dealership there. Her car/team also won the 1970 24 hours of Le Mans, the first overall win for Porsche. Oh yeah, and her son is also the current chairman of Volkswagen.

The family has had a home there for a long time. I've passed by many times while on tour there, but never took the time to stop. Some months ago while reading up on the family history, I learned that Porsche is buried there.

They're Austrian. First Porsche pre-356's were hand made in the family barn at their farm in Gmund .. and the original family home is in Zell Am See. After Reutter Carrosserie built a new facility, Porsche bought the old Reutter plant (current location) in Stuttgart when sales picked up and they wanted to be next to their big body supplier ...
