I'm dropping down from my 18" twist to the 17" Cup 2 wheel for auto x. What brand tire and size are people using for auto x / track? Thanks ahead of time for response!
Wheels are the standard size:
Front 17x7 et 55
Rear 17x9 et 55
I just replaced on the tires on 993 that's running on Cup 2s. I went with 225/45R-17 and 255/40R-17 Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position SL. They're handling great! The added front width cuts down on understeer and the added width looks very aggressive. No regrets with this purchase.
I could have opted for higher performance tires if I was intending just to use these wheels for AX, but I was looking for a set of tires that would suit street use (including wet conditions) and spirited use.

Thanks Spyder Man. I think I should be good with the 215 45 then. Or maybe step it up to the 225 45 like you. Do you have any pictures? It doesn't look awkward right?
When selecting tread width, you want to be sure the overall diameter of the front and rear wheels match. The second number (i.e. the 45) in the series is the sidewall eight as a % of the overall tread width. 45% of 215 = 96.75 where as 45% of 225 = 101.25. The rear wheels at OEM spec are 255/40 so 40% of 255 = 102.
So 225/45 is a closer diameter match to the rear wheels than 215/45. 215/50 would be too tall relative to the rears too. So your best options are stock 205/50 (at 102.5) or 225/45 (at 101.25).

Spidey, I'm understanding the ratio. Makes sense. 225 tire calls for a 7" to 8.5" rim. 7" would be on the skinnier side of things. But your car looks good. Doesn't seem to bulge out. Thanks for the photos!

Yup, I've got no complaints with the looks or the performance of these SO-4s at 225 tread width. Road tested and approved after last Thursday's 300-mile backroad jaunt.

I don't think any of the Porsche wheels are very nice, I have the cup 11s and can't wait to take em off, not sure why everyone loves those twists either, and the biggest mystery to me is the speed lines and RUF wheels, I think I am the only one who does not get it. I think Porsche tries to hard to invent new wheel designs.
