Radar detector Escort 9500 ix problem with Porsche 993.
Hi all,
Radar detector Escort 9500 ix problem with Porsche 993.
I have an Escort 9500ix for a week and there is no way to tell over 100 meters away (very little space). But I use it on another car (Renault) and starts to 400 meters in advance.
I have tried in different parts of the crystal below and above and can not get enough distance to work. People told me it is because the 993 glass is very thick. I tested only in horizontal.
Anyone have experience with Escort 9500 ix in Porsche 964 or Porsche 993?
Best location?
Horizontal or vertical?
Distances collected radar warning?
Thank you very much.
Charls.

Charls,
I have had my Escorts (8500's and there variants) in my 993 for ten years and they work perfectly. Mine is mounted just above the rearview mirror, but below the area that is 'coated' and has a weave kind of look to it. This would obstruct the unit considerably. If you place the unit with a clear line of sight through clear glass it should work fine.

I have the 9500ix mounted with a visor clip (hard wired- towards rear view mirror) and it works great. I did have a problem with the visor popping out of the little black clip- but fixed that by unscrewing it a bit and running a zip tie behind it then tightening it. I now can't move the visor to block sun at the side window but can flip it down in front if needed suddenly.

I have a 9500IX that will not sync with satellites when in my wife's Cayenne, but works fine in my Audi S4 (or my 993)... The Cayenne has the thermal glass option, so that's what I'm blaming it on. But, I don't think that helps you in any way... don't beleive there was a thermal glass option on the 993, was there?

then I do not understand what could happen.
In my audi is perfect and alerts goes well in advance and otherwise in the porsche 993 is located where you say and goes wrong.
Could be in the upper green layer?
