Default Problem with short shift kit

I just installed a short shift kit I got from Vertex. It is stamped Porsche and has the number 964 424 015 08 on it.

It installed fine but now the bottom bolt (old arm had snap on cup) of shifter arm is in the way and will not allow me to reinstall the tunnel cover??

Anyone have this problem

Rick, there are two bushings in the shift box that support the tube that the lever assembly slides on. These need to be flipped 180deg when installing an SSK

if you'd like pics and a DIY guide, there is one here: http://www.fdmotorsports.net/index_files/Page2027.htm

I had the same issue - I did some reading on here and found that the cover has to be "hammered" a bit. My mechanic did an awesome job - can't really tell at all - shifter works perfect! Good luck!

Mark
Thanks for the tip but I am not sure what two bushings you are referring to?

Last week I had my shifter assembly all apart as the rubber boot had ripped and the shift shaft seal was leaking.

You will need to disassemble your short shift kit and do the following under the car:

thanks Hans

Rick, the link I posted above has an install guide... It should make it clear if Hans' post above doesn't

jackcas is referring to an AWD 993 in his post above

Thanks everyone for their help. I look forward to completing this project tonight. I complained to Vertex about not having the proper instructions with the shifter assembly. And they offered to credit me the cost of the next day air shipping on the shifter to make up for my having the problem!! What a great company Vertex is to offer me a credit for my problem. You always find out who the good suppliers are when you have a problem and see how they react. Vertex is a good supplier!!

Or next time you could buy one from Mark at FDMotorsports. They sell one as well, so next time your looking, it can't hurt to add them to the possible vendor list to choose from.

You'd have a short shift kit, instructions online on how to install, and personable online RL support if you have questions.....

Just a thought, your call.

Yeah and it seems $50 cheaper.

I am thinking of doing the short shift thing.
