Buying a Canadian car?
Hi,
Is there a downside or any issues in buying a Canadian 993?
There is a 31k miles SY Turbo in Montreal on Ebay....
Thanks.

The only issue I know of is that Porsche's are (or used to be anyway) more expensive in Canada. A Canadian cars might even command a premium up here too. It would be interesting to see what the reserve is.

I believe Canadian Cars (option c-36 ??) are NA spec'd with km/h only speedos, day time running lights (the fog lights), and child seat mounting thingies for the rear seats.
I bought a C4S last August that was a local West Coast Canadian spec'd car and possibly paid a 5-10% premium over what might be found in the States.
The starting bid for this auction is $70K ($Cdn is at or near par to $USA right now) which seems mid to high for a lower mileage TT.

They are more expensive. You will have to swap the speedo, & pay import taxes. Usually it's better to go from USA to Canada, then Canada/ USA.
Canadian cars have baby seat hooks in the rear deck, you can see the 2 plastic covers, covering the hooks, KPH speedo, & day time running lights. Can be salt rusted out.

You have to remember that Canadian cars were very expensive here due to exchange rates. My '95 coupe was a $100k car up here. Most weren't daily drivers and didn't see winter hence the low mileage.

I own a Canadian spec 993 that the previous owner brought to the States. The speedo was changed to MPH, and the car has daytime running lights.
That seems to be the only difference, aside smelling like back bacon and maple syrup, of course

I saw that car, looks nice. Not sure what it will end up selling for. I did notice it didn't list amount of owners and it had massive gaps of information missing in the Carfax. Not sure why, but definitely look into before placing that winning bid.

Although not a guarantee that it wasn't winter driven, based on the annual mileage, one could bet it wasn't. The first 10 years saw an annual mileage of 4300 kms or 2672 miles and for the next 4 years, it saw a total of another 5740 kms or 3567 miles.
