Won't be ready for Miller, Haven't even cracked the engine open. Looks like you will be safe from me this year.

I was in the middle of a couple of other projects (suspension and steering refresh) so haven't had the time and don't want too many projects on the go at once.

I Have had a few experts look a the bits and they are piston ring....

I should have the engine home in the next few week and then start stripping it down, have been collecting parts for the rebuild at the moment (rods, GT3 oil pump etc)....

Well if I have the engine rebuilt, it may be a little harder

You need to post some more videos.....

Hi, so I'm considering the LN 106.045mm bore nickies kit for a 993 76,4 crank/ 4.04L. for a track day / street car build, why you might ask, cause they make it
Then i saw this thread with 9M comments. :O
Is 103mm bore still considered a max?
Or has there been some development, materials, oils etc, that makes it workable? 106.0045 is still a stretch tho..
I cant find much experience with 106 bore on the internett either.. ?

By far the prefered method is
997 GT3 4.0 80.4mm stroke crank and 102.7 p&c bore, for 3996cc

We've done about a dozen sets of 106s in the last 5 years. All have gone to Europe. No complaints, but it's certainly pushing the limits, and I wouldn't recommend it for the track. Our 105s (4.135" actually) have been out there since 2004 and are race proven as well.

However our 104s with the Mahle Motorsports pistons are by far the most popular. Not quite a true 4L, but that's what everyone calls them.

We also have a version of the above kit to go with the 80.4 crank and 130mm rods which yields 4.1L. We're out of stock on that one and Mahle Motorsport is backed up and we won't see those pistons until April-ish.

There is no downside to having a 4.0 L air cooled engine!! Depends on your budget as to how you get there. Bill V is right on the the RS 4.0 stroker crank and 102.7 bore, which with all the other custom parts like heads, cams, p/c and long rods yields a very potent 400+hp/330 ft-lb with street drivability and expected track durability.
The fork in the budget road is the stroker crank, which really wants everything else in order to make screaming big power.
Getting to 4.0 with all bore works well but it doesn't deliver the power like a 4.0 stroker.

I considered going with all bore but my intended track use and example of Trophy's experience I choose the stroker crank route.
Very happy with the results.

I have 993s with 4.0s, both engines built by Christian Treiber, both follow the 102 approach. Very happy with the power, delivery, and driving experience with both cars.

Once in a while, you do remember that you can never have the "authenticity" of the stock motors back - but that almost never happens, and certainly not when you are actually driving the cars. Night and day difference wrt the fun from actually driving the cars. Also, I do expect slightly higher maintenance requirements for the upgraded motors, which similarly is a very small price to pay for the upside, especially since most of us over-maintain these cars anyway.

This probably won't help with those feelings.
Rothsport Racing full on 4.0L build. Very close to the Gunther Werks edition.

The only downside to a 4.0 is the hit to your wallet… it’s not just the engine you’ll be upgrading at this point. If you made it this far down the rabbit hole, uou probably already performed every major upgrade to the chassis, suspension, brakes, and transmission.
