Porsche Fan, I see you like things in pairs.
It sounds like your S2's are great. I have seen some of your posts on the 944 side of things and am happy to know that owners like thier cars. This one is lightly optioned but I don't mind since it is a dd. I have ordered new Koni inserts since the stockers are wasted...they are (as I am sure you know) adjustable. I plan on leaving it in unadultrated form for the most part.
EDIT Here is a picture I just took of Chuck and his learners permit. Hot off the press this morning. I think he will be a good passenger (read: not driver) on this trip! Remember your learners permit?...so many carrs ago.

Drifting
Hey Andy, these are one of my favorite cars. Well balanced and good power.
When you get it home, first thing to do though is pull the valve cover and check the plastic rubbing block on the hydraulic tensioner between the cams. They fail with dramatic results, AMHIK! You can buy just the plastic piece for about $20 IIRC, otherwise it's $350 for the whole unit.
Also check the plastic housing on the electrical connectors, they dry out and fail/crumble. The one to watch is the one the comes out of the rear of the housing where the distributor mounts.
Great car none the less, I'm jealous.

Andy, congrats on the 89' 944 S2 its a gorgeous porsche. Im a big fan, a buddy near by has black S2 and I absolutelylove how it drives. He's overhauled the suspension nicely while lowering it and is rocking a very clean set of set of 993 18" twists.
Anyway, just wanted to chime in here and support a fello rennlister. Looking forward to pictures of you're S2
You know, I was thinking a set of Carrera classics would look soo killer man or perhaps MY02's...hmmm I<3 oem wheels. Good luck and enjoy

The S2 is here. My nephew Chuck and I endured an endless day including 3 planes, two layovers, finding our way out of the northeast in a new and strange car...and driving 5 hours all in one day. Ugh. Day two, (today) included getting up at 4am and driving another 8 hours. Still, we had fun. I promised his parents he would not drive so he was a little bummed out but still, a trooper. (pictures of trip included)
Next post will be of the car, my impressions and pictures after intiial wash and clay.

This is a strange car. If you ever try to compare it and a 993 or old 911 you will be lost. It is it's own beast. It idles like farm equipment and turns like a tractor in the parking lot. Those 4 huge pistons are work horses and you hear and feel them WORKING.
You sit back in this BIG HAIR 80's mobile. Crank up some Talking Heads, U2, John Cougar and VAn Halen all at once...then crank up the Boss and you will feel right. Then, pop up those headlights just for the full effect!
Once on the road, it pulls, pushes, and torques it's way through the 5 and 6 k range as the speedo rises. It is not a fast and light feeling, but a heavy and powerful feeling. Handling, very neutral and dead on center. Mine needs new shocks and struts so I am looking for some crispness in the future.
It drives great on the highway but feels a little bigger around town. Not in a bad way, but like you have big hair and shoulder pads on. It feels, looks and acts 1980's. That is a fine thing really, since I was there and feel at home. It has just been so long since I actually FELT the 80's in every cell of my being. That is the 944 S2 from my perspective.
Overall impression? I really like it. Fun, strange and cool. I think Max Headroom would dig it, Pee Wee Herman might not though. (He drives a red 912) I cant wait to do the deferred maintanence and minor upgrading to make it feel like my car. Updates to follow.
Oh, what does it need? Window switches or regulators, shocks maybe, sunroof gears, and a few other minors. I have had old SAABS so these don't bother me...I "understand" how this car was made and how parts fail. This is a good one (61 k, full records) and good history. Just needs some love and money.
I washed and clayed it today...will polish and wax later this week.

Congrats, ABCar. Looks great! How about some interior pics? Did you use any blue tape or anything to protect the front during the long drive, or did you just go commando?
Owning a 944-series car is a never ending job it seems like, but fun nonetheless.
