Corroded aluminium on rear window
Initially I was more concerned about the possibility of the window breaking if taken out, lucky enough that didn't happen. However upon removal of my rear window, the shop has indicated aluminium corrosion on the rear window (pics below, this would be the sections in white). They told me this would be salt related, very likely due to the car originally coming from Eastern Canada.
The best solution is to replace the entire rear window, of course big $ and I'm not sure if I can get one in a timely manner too. Waiting to hear back from Sunset and sourcing a used glass locally with no issues too.
My 2nd option is to treat, epoxy etc the glass corroded area, the glass would then be placed on the urethane, however they are questioning 100% adhesion over time?
I'm learning now nothing likes to adhere to corroded aluminium. The positive is no rust would spread since direct contact is the urethane and not the body of the car, the question is whether water would leak through eventually?
Has anyone encountered this issue?
I search previous posts and nothing comes up addressing my specific topic.
TIA!
