I checked out a 993 4S that is for sale in Germany. It is a LHD car which was delivered new in Japan. This is confirmed in writing by the Porsche factory. To my surprise there is no options code sticker on the inside of the front compartment lid. The seller vehemently claims that Japanese spec cars never had this options sticker. He showed me another low miles Japanese spec car he had in his showroom, which did not have an options sticker either. He does have some kind of Japanese service maintenance book, with a Porsche logo on it, but it is completely in Japanese. He does not have what I consider the regular service book, i.e. the one that also contains the options sticker. Again, the dealer claims Japanese spec cars do not come with this "regular" service book. Having never seen a Japanese spec 993 before, I have nothing to refute his statements, still I am very reluctant to accept his claims.

Is there someone out there with a Japanese spec 993 who can tell me whether or not there is an options sticker on the inside of the front compartment lid of these cars? If so, a photo would be very welcome.

For what it's worth, I have the 928S4 Driver's Manual ( in Japanese) for an '88 MY which I had purchased and imported from Japan (LHD): neither the car nor the manual had any option code data, although it is identical in format to the English language version ie., has mtce. record intervals, space for dealer stamps, etc.

We get heaps of japanese imports here in NZ, and I have never seen a car with a service book.
Not sure on the options sticker sorry. I am always suspect of japanese imports because of this but maybe the guy is telling the truth.
Have you called Porsche to ask them?
Personally I reckon it sounds dodgy. Why not have an option sticker just because it's going to Japan?

No option sticker as far as I know. If the car is in Germany, get it checked out as it is so much easier to do so than you having it checked out in Japan when you are in Europe somewhere...

I own a '97 993 that was imported into New Zealand in 2000 with 27,000 kilometers on the clock and when I queried why there was no option label on the underside of the bonnet was informed that Japanese 993's did NOT have one.
There was no service book either.

I am in Japan, own a 96 C4S (Japanese version).
No options sticker on the inside of the front compartment lid.

The car was RHD from Japan.

I own 3 Japanese 993s, two of the cars have no sticker, one has it. My understanding is that normally Japanese cars as delivered have the sticker delete "option"; one has to specify inclusion of the sticker, otherwise it is automatically deleted.

Carlos, are you sure one is not a German "Grey/personal import" as some cars were imported outwith dealer network as is the case for many 993RS Clubsport

All the 3 cars are traced to be original "Japan" cars, my RS used to be part of the personal collection of the owner of "Mizwa", perhaps the premiere Tokyo Porsche dealer. There are certain items that are sure Japan spec identifiers. TX

Yes, we are permitted to drive LHD vehicles in New Zealand providing they meet certain criteria. Unfortunately, one of the rules states that if any car is manufactured in RHD configuration (such as Porsche for example) then it can not be registered in New Zealand unless it's over twenty years old.
