Default What to look for in a '95 C2?

I found this on Pelican Parts, I really like it but I don't know a whole lot about 993s. The seller said he could get a PPI done, but the problem is I live on the east coast so I wouldn't really be able to check it out without making a commitment to at least fly out to see it. Thoughts?

hard to tell from the pics. For a PPI do some research on good shops in the cars area to get a neutral opinion.. with almost 100k I would think hard about a leak down test to check the internals of the motor. Check how bad the oil leaks are as well. Suspension looks SUV - is it the factory shocks? If so, they will need to be replaced and will transform the car. What exhaust is on it? aftermarket tips at the minimum.

Clean looking interior and exterior. Engine bay could use some TLC. Ask for record of 90k mi service. I would not let seller do PPI. Rather reach out to rennlister in the area for shop recommendations nearby.

He said he knows a good shop near by, I'd check on here to see if it's a good shop and I'd have the shop contact me directly with results.

Why don't you ask a Rennlister that is local to the car go take a peek and test drive for you? Start a new thread with a title like "Need a Rennfax near xxxxxxxx, Oregon, please". You'll be surprised how helpful people on this board are.

Looks like a nice car to me.

Here's some 'Portland PPI' threads --

Seems like a new dealer? Website is just a placeholder... If you search the Pelican the dealer has sold 4 cars in the past month. Read into that what you want but my hunch is that it's a good thing. Here's the license info:

Particularly if you ante up for a membership here-you'll make it back many times over with advice. You also get access to the member-member want ads.

or this...which may not be a good thing.

FYI sounds like car is in Sweet Home which is a haul from Portland.

If this is your first 993 you may want to know a LOT more before buying one. Search PPI on Rennlist to understand the buying process and what needs to be inspected. There are some good books on the 993...I like Porsche 993 The Essential Companion for broad reference on the model line.

You can also look for cars for sell here as well...generally you are going to get a "fairer" deal here than buying from a dealer.

Good luck and keep asking questions.

Good call.

This may be the BBB record on that.
http://www.bbb.org/oregon/business-r...me-or-22676548

BBB found business made good faith effort to resolve complaint but customer not satisfied with business response
Sure seems odd that a dealer who claims "Hundreds of happy customers and many years specializing in air cooled Porsches. My business speaks for itself" is not BBB accredited.

And nearly 100 miles from Portland, that's not going to help matters.

Thanks for all the responses! I think at this point I'm going to play it safe and skip this one. It just doesn't seem like it's worth the risk with this guy.

Good call. Too many people rush the decision. It's the thrill of the hunt! I love hearing folks' stories about hunting for 1.5 yrs to find the right car... if you can handle waiting.
