I've been told here on RL that there are limiting plates that can be installed on the steering rack to limit steering angle which will avoid that issue. Few if any install them....

This is an interesting thread. I have never tried a 993 with 17" wheels although I can imagine that it would be a softer ride I really don't like the look of the cup wheels and I have been totally satisfied with the performance of the 18" tires. For me the factory hollow spokes is the look.

As I stated before and, again IMHO, suspension and actual tire (brand/model etc.) will effect ride and handling more than wheel/tire size and diameter. Those currently running 17s shouldn't expect Cup-car handling and crap ride if they switch to 18s, those with 18s shouldn't expect Lexus-ride and Chevette handling if they switch to 17s. Suspension and tire choice rule. Once again, this is just my opinion.

If you're not the original owner of your car, those marks could have been made by the previous owner with other wheels.
Paint the areas and see if the paint rubs off with your present wheels. I doubt a 205 on 7s would rub.

Just to add another data point... I have 255x30x19 tires on Rufus. There may be some rubbing, I don't know. Or care. I don't hear it or feel it if they are rubbing.

Hope you guys dont mind me jumping in on this discussion, but here's something I've been trying to figure out the last week or so, any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently bought a 96' 993 NB which came with 17" wheels, 7" infront and 9" in back both with 55 offset. I swapped them out for some Turbo Look I wheels, 8" infront and 10" in the back. The offset for the front is 52 and rears are 40 mm. The rear is now sticking out beyond the fender by about 3/4 of an inch and hits to fender when i have passenger in the car and go over dips at higher speeds...my question then-is there a solution to the rubbing? (other than not carrying a passenger) I like the 10" rear wheels, but is this an offset problem? or have others had the same experience no matter what offset? Other than the rubbing any other potential problems with this setup? thanks!
