When I jumped into this thread I advised having a PPI with leakdown. This should expose severe collision damage history. I also advised confirming the previous damages. Photos can show that damages were cosmetic in most, if not all cases. These cars are now trading between 55 and 95 depending on color/options/mileage/condition/and private or dearler sale. In light of these prices I wouldn't let a bit of paintwork get in my way if I found an otherwise great car. Just me.......Chris

I didn't say anything about buying or not buying the car. I just said that I couldn't believe they let it come back from a bodyshop with that much orange peel on it.

If you take your car to Maaco or Earl Scwab I guess you can expect that kind of thing. But if it's my 993TT and I see it come out of the bodyshop like that, it's going back in. That's all I was saying.

Orange peel is completely related to prep and spraying and is totally preventable. With a car like that, I'd make the shop redo it.

Oh, and someone stated that every car comes from the factory with orange peel. No they don't. My 993 has the original paint and there's no orange peel on the car. If I saw one with orange peel, I'd suspect to find body damage in its history.

But that's just me....

Terry, I didn't mean to imply any behavior on your, or anyone else's part, that is why the sentence ends in a question mark instead of a period. A poor attempt at humor is what it was. I agree with you concerning OEM orange peel from Porsche, up to a point. None of my P-cars had a square inch of orange peel until I bought my new 09 C2S. The hood had orange peel, as did the right rear fender.....Chris

Thanks...I feel that the contents of my reply are valid, but the tone is too strident...Apologies.

It's a Jesse Alexander photo from LeMans in 1959....Aside from the cars, my favorite detail about the photo is the little boys standing in the garage door.

ANY car with paintwork will take a hit price-wise vs a car with no paintwork. Just try and trade in a car with paintwork and you will quickly find that out.

Today's cars have orange peel because of the use of water-based paints. That is why cut and polish paint jobs are so prevalent today....it's the only way to get a smooth finish.

I hadn't noticed the little boys but you are absolutely right. I was 14 when I saw the RSK beat the Corvettes at Marlboro Raceway. Giant killers is what they were called. I've been a Porsche nut ever since. Those kids are me. My search for a poster begins immediately. Thanks.....Chris
