Default OT: EBay seller screwed me over Cup 2 wheels

Another chapter in my saga in trying to find some wheels.

Seller named "CellFuel" on Ebay, guy named Jim Graves out of CA posted some Cup2 wheels for sale. He says he has 4 OEM Cup 2 wheels in great condition.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110813785742...#ht_500wt_1413

I contact him that I want the wheels. He cancels the sale and sends me a Paypal bill for $1000 (includes shipping). I pay it and the wheels are shipped.

Everything looks good. I get the wheels on time. I take off the front Ruf wheels (which I sold). I put on the fronts. I then take off the rear wheels, and take the rear Cup 2 wheels out of the box and immediately go white. He shipped me imitations from Italy for the rears.

WTF??? I just realize I have been scammed. Over email, he was a guy just getting rid of some wheels left over in the garage and his wife wants them out of there. On the phone, he is a 100% feedback, sells 1000s of wheels and top notch seller. I tell him I don't care about feedback, and I want my money back, I will be filing a complaint on PayPal. He says go ahead and hangs up. I start getting emails from him saying he made a mistake, and everyone does and will refund my money. I ask "when". He says he will send me the money when he gets the wheels. I say no way am I forking over another $300 to send back wheels so now I'm out even more money. I tell him to refund the money and pay for the shipping back to CA.

He says go ahead and escalate the complaint. This guy is a total scam artist and stay away!

Better save that ebay ad before he takes it down, as it clearly says OEM with part numbers.

You might also find a pair of OEM rear wheels and then just dispute the balance.

Yep, already copied it and pasted in case. Plus, I have a email from him saying he was in fault. However, I also have emails from him saying he won't pay and to file the dispute even though he was wrong. He is just a jerk opff.

I've decided to move on from here, sell the car, and spend more time on my new interest. I will just put original tires back on these 16 wheels and post on Craigslist.

Don't want to be a party pooper but once you do a deal outside of ebay, a lot of the protection that ebay and paypal gives you is lost - ask me how I know....

If Tony does decide to sell, then I'm sure there will be a line forming to the right.

Don't let the bad seller from eBay color any of your decisions. A wise person once told me "it's only time and money."

Lots of high value things he's sold successfully and gotten f/b on. It sucks that you got burned but things might have gone a lot smoother had you dealt through Ebay. I'm sure he would have handled things differently if his 100% fb were at stake. He can scam you now with impunity.
Ebay will reimburse your shipping charges if you file a dispute and they confirm you were duped, as you clearly were. Hope you paid with a cc through PP. You'll have a better chance of success dealing with them than PP. The trouble is you'll be expected to show proof that the wheels were shipped back, which means you'll be out return shipping costs.
GL getting things resolved.

Dispute the charge on Paypal. I think this will freeze his paypal account.

Any seller will freak if their papal account/fund is frozen.

Sorry to hear this Tony, especially since I gave you the heads up on the auction and sent you the link! Somebody here posted recently asking 'Why do people always say no affiliation, blah, blah, .. ' well, here's a great example. And, while I'm ranting here, I bought an airbag on Craigslist yesterday, paid through Paypal invoice system and the seller said he'd ship "right away" and send me the tracking info .. nothing yet and it always makes me nervous doing business like that.

This is a good example of why I don't like Ebay.

Tony- Good luck resolving this.

Whats worse is that a good Ebay seller saw an opportunity to screw over a buyer and took it without a 2nd thought. Its pretty clear to me he has the original rims based on the photos and his history of selling $1K+ items. Were the tires different to the ones on the rears in the photos?

Thanks, and yes I'm a bit P.O. right now. PayPal has it with their "counterfeit" department and it could take up to 30 days to resolve.

Time is the biggest issue for me. I'm on a plane all week, home during the weekend and not enough time to enjoy anything, car, dog, house, cat, frog. So now instead of enjoying my 9 month old, or throwing a ball with my son, I have to go find another set of wheels and tires that I just freaking paid for.

Ebay and mean people suck. I'm whining at this point

Magdaddy, I got involved in my local community center that provides financial assistance to families getting back on their feet.

Well I'm about embark of charge dispute myself. Bought a Ligne Roset Maly bed from a listing on CL. Was told it was 2.5 years old and in exc condition.....blah blah. Have it delivered to find the mattress and frame had been stored for an extended period in an outside shed and the mattress reeked of mold. This $1800 mattress is completely ruined. I checked the date stamp on the headboard covers and it says Jan 2005. Not 2.5 years old at all but 7 years old. It seems some people have no problem telling outright lies to strangers, thinking they can get away with the it. Makes me sick.
Luckily I insisted on paying with PP using a CC.

Problem as I see it, is that the transaction was done outside of Ebay. The Ebay auction has no merit on what you received, unless it was explicitly stated on the seller's invoice. Paypal is a subsidiary of Ebay and as such the parent company is already losing money by you going behind their backs and purchasing the wheels outside of Ebay. I don't think they will be very sympathetic to your case. I hope I'm wrong.

Meanwhile, a local to me Rennlister is selling a set of mint refinished Cup IIs in the classifieds for $1000. Might want to look into those.

Best of luck!

Sorry to hear this. Nothing pisses me off more than deceitful people and liars. I got screwed over once on ebay, and thru Paypal and about a month, I received my refund. Hang in there Tony.
