Default OT: But building new garage for the 993!!

Hi all, just thought I would share the news with my fellow 'listers.

I just made my first post on Garagejournal.com. I have finally started contruction on expanding my two-car garage to make it a 3 car garage / man cave.

In a nutshell, I'm adding a 10 x 20 single stall to my garage on what is now a parking space next to my existing garage.

Completion date is projected to be late April. We just got started, but I'm pretty ecstatic about it. I'll post up pics as progress is made

Here's the link to my Garage Journal post:

I looked at the link and it seems like you are going down the same road I did 2 years ago. I have an attached 2 car garage and wanted to add an additional bay. I had several quotes, but for my addition, it turned out it was just too much. At the time, I was including it with a major roof replace and new garage floor plus driveway. I was shocked to learn that mine was in the 20k to 30k (low end). If your comfortable with sharing, I'm real curious as to what your ballpark costs are. PM me if you wish. I'm watching this post with envy.

Fun project.

I was looking around garagejournal and went into the classified - boy those guys are militant! Someone was selling an old beat-up Snapon tool box, and there was some discussion around these boxes and their value, and senior members just kept on quoting "That is in VIOLATION of RULE #%", and "You are NOT allowed to have discussions about price!". Geeze, much nicer over here.

Cheers,

Mike

Is there some sort of minimum 'setback' you have to build to on the neighbor's shared property line? I've been told that it's the roof line that determines that and not the foot print of the building wall .. my 'shop' was added way before I bought the house but the corner of the roof actually goes over my neighbor's fenceline .. something I don't like to talk about at all

Good Luck! I did a very similar project about 5 years ago. I made the garage a pass through with a door on the front and back. I now store my personal watercraft behind the additional garage and the 993 goes in the single.

You can never have too much garage!

Funny thing, you'll always find a way to fill it up.

In San Diego it is a minimum 4' set back from the property line. The roof or eaves don't count, it's the wall of the structure itself. The property line is the issue for me (with or without big eaves), space gets tight the further back you go due to the property line angleing in as you go from front yard to back. The new space is only going to be 10' wide due to it being right at 4' from the prop line when you go back 20'. The front face of the new garage will be set back from the existing about 4 feet for appearance reasons AND I have a gas meter, hose bib, and main electrical panel located at that front corner of the garage that would otherwise have to be relocated.

I originally was hoping for 11.5' x 22', but it just doesn't work.

setback can vary between towns/villages/cities/etc...it's usually dependant upon local Zoning regs.

There is front yard, both side's, and rear set back. If you have a corner lot, you don't have two sides...you have two fronts-ask me how I know.

Setback can vary at every corner, might even be different between sides.

Always check with local zoning/building inspector BEFORE planning or building.

Sometime I'll be able to post the 2K (w/ loft) facility my cousin built to ramp up 910/907 production. But for now he wants to keep a low profile. The hassles with the county were absolutely unbelievable.

Bummer, sight is currently down. I'll check back. I have been considering adding 2 car garage. My 3 car garage isnt enough. Alternatively, am considering buying an old office Bldg with a few friends to keep our toys I was guessing about $40k for 2 car with basic room above...is that about right with stucco side.

Congratulations! I'm looking forward to seeing your build thread. I built a garage two years ago so I know how you must feel getting this underway.
