Bill of sale requirements vary from state to state! I've never heard of one that complies with all 50 state requirements. Some states don't even require a bill of sale at all. Check your DMV office to see if they have one. The Colorado DMV offices have a stack of them for our state.

Better yet, why not ask our closet car flipper/dealer deadhead1960? I'm sure he has the most experience of all of us here.

Think of the Bill of Sale as a contract between you and the other party. It's a valuable piece of protection for you in case of any misunderstandings or future litigation. There are Statute of Frauds considerations as well but that will vary from state to state.

Another thing, a Bill Of Sale isn't proof of ownership.

I once had someone try to sell me a dirt bike without an ownership. All he was willing to do was provide me with a Bill of Sale.

In fact, even an ownership may no longer be valid. They may have an old dulpicate long after the vehicle was sold and then stolen again.

CYA.

I would say....seller is in receipt of cashier's check #00123, drawn on Farmers Bank in the amount of $9,993. This check represents the full purchase price for vehicle described herein.

Other than basic vehicle and owner info, i like the following verbiage:

Seller warrants that Seller is the legal owner of Vehicle and that Vehicle is free of all legal claims, liens, or encumbrances.
Other than the warranty of ownership, Seller makes no warranties expressed or implied. Buyer agrees to purchase vehicle in "as is" condition.
