Default Alternative Hood Badge - Whaddya Think?

I'm in the process of restoring a 1967 912 and as you know, the early cars were oroginally fitted with orange hood badges as opposed to the later red ones like on our 993s. I thought I would try a repro orange badge on my 993 as something different. I didn't really like the color on my replaced red badge - the red was more pink than the original that the previous owner pushed on to close the hood and cracked the enamel.

Here's the red one:

And here's the orange one:

So whaddyou guys think? I've seen silver ones and black ones on 993s but never an orange one. I kinda like it.

And if you are tired of boiling and stretching and swearing at your badge gasket in order to make it fit, order part# 7L585311B from Stoddard (stoddard.com). Type that number in the search box and it will come up as the one listed on the early 911 parts page has a differnt number. It's a German gasket that fits with no fuss.

Either one looks just fine. It's such a subtle difference that I don't know if I'd truly care after an hour if I were to put it on my car.

Damn. Maybe i have become a fanatic, but I really like it. The new one that I just received is almost purple. The old one had a great patina but the red had faded to a pink/purple. Any chance you can make a 2nd orange one?

It's a repro from Stoddard. Order the one that's $55.94 as it looks the best. Order the above gasket separately as the one that comes with the badge will drive you nuts

That is the only part number for the gasket now, fits all models from 1964-2012. The one in the kit does tend to be an aftermarket one like the badge and too plasticy and shrinks over time

Do you have both in a single picture?
That would allow for a comparison (as good as it gets by photograph)

You know what's funny, I remember the original badges being red .. I've always thought that the 'Orange' color that became so coveted and expensive was just sun damage .. and now that's being reproduced!

On the 993, I definitely prefer the new red one over the orange one. On a longhood with a non-metallic color, I would prefer the orange bar badge.
