Daytime Running Lights - US Spec car - who has done it?

I did a search and found a couple DIY's that indicate you can pull the fog light relay and replace it with an in-line fused jumper between #30 and #87 to turn the fog lights into DRL's. Looking at the wiring diagrams that DIY seems to make sense.
However, in my search it seemed like most of the discussion centered around non-US Spec cars and I'm paranoid about creating an issue. Who has done this jumper mod with a US Spec car, how long ago, any issues, etc?
Thanks in advance.

My car has this done ~ US spec car imported to Canada where daytime lights are
mandatory. I will take a pic of my fuse box with the rewire when I get home later
this afternoon. It seems really simple, plus you can always go back to stock if you
get bored of it.

I dont know why there's no DRL's in the US.. I see too many people driving around at night\fog\low visibility with nothing on and it's just dangerous. I'm definately doing this mod!

I prefer my DRLs: my left hand.
Seriously, I don't like the automatic DRL business. If I want them on, I turn them on, and I do --the real headlights which are far better than the anemic fogs-- especially in any car that my kids are riding in. I get the purpose, but I personally don't care for them on by default unless we're talking minivans or other urban people haulers. But OTOH, I guess the one plus is that you can't ever leave them on by accident when you park.

You can but first you have to turn on the light switch one turn in order for it to work.
On 964 cars all you need is a relay for the DRLs but on the 993 there is some wiring involved as well, IIRC.

mts,
the DIY that you refer to and which many have done here basically turns the foglights on when the engine is running. This suffices as DRLs for the purpose of complying with laws in Canada for US Spec cars.
What were you you expecting exactly?

For the fogs to turn on when the engine is running. They do not. I must have done something incorrectly.

I had a shop in Phoenix convert my US spec car for the DRLs. They told me that they modified the car to closely resemble the factory's mod and added wiring, relay socket and the relay. I was surprised that the wiring harnesses were not the same between the US and Canadian cars. You would think that it would be more cost effective to make one harness for NA and just omit the relay. After installing HIDs headlights w/relay I tried unsuccessfully to disable the DRLs (because the colors were quite different) and could not. I'm fuzzy on the details now but I think I pulled the relay. Weird.
