If you like to be pushed, buy the 2s.

Yep, I'm always a little surprised by the "turbo suspension" comment as well.

As far as I know the only difference is the turbos ran slightly bigger sway/anti-roll bars - so I guess the 4S's got those.

All things equal (i.e. comparable color, condition, records, etc.) and comparable price, I would probably go with the 1998 c2s: one year newer, last year of the AC car, fewer made. If you really like the big red calipers, you can put them on afterwards, and you'll likely modify the suspension anyways.

Having said that, I doubt they are identical except for one being a C2S vs. C4S, so I'd let the other features guide your decision. You will be happy either way. The C2S is probably "safer" for the reasons noted above, unless the difference in price vs. the C4S is more than a few thousand.

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think there is any difference in suspension between the C4S or C4 or any non turbo for that matter. The only difference would be the ordered suspension options from the factory. I'm sure someone that knows for sure will chime in.

It is my understanding that all C4S's have M030 or "sports chassis" as a base option. On C2S you got to order it with M030.

Agreed, there was a thread recently that compared widths of sway bars and all
North American 993's, except for the turbo, run the same widths.. Plus, my C4S
looks like a 4x4 with stock suspension so I doubt it has a M030 package from the
factory as standard.

C2S is a bit lighter, so if you don't need the 4WD, get the C2S. Both C2S and C4S cars will become more desireable in time.

If it was me and all other things being equal, I would go for the 2S

Nobody has mentioned it, but wouldn't there be some higher maintenance costs, and more parts to worry about failing, with the 4S?

Not too much, I think - the 993 AWD system is very simple as opposed to the 964 variant. Viscous clutch, I think...

Default FDM 2WD conversion kit

Buy the 4S and convert it to a 2wd. FDM sells the kit for about $1300.00. You will get Turbo brakes, hydraulic boosted brakes and clutch and a factory LSD/ABD ( four channel ABS instead of three channel). Call Mark at FDM and ask about there kit. You can always reverse the conversion if you want. You will never be able to convert the 2S into a 4S.

The 4S only has the power assisted brakes of the Turbo. It does not have an a power assisted clutch.

The 4S has a boosted clutch like the Turbo? Are you sure?

I have not driven a 2S so I cannot compare. But with my 1997 C4S, it is an awesome experience to go on winding curves in 2nd gear and use the throttle to push the rear in line with the front. I love my C4S

do you need/want/desire AWD ?
if not, C2S ...
