Headlights are sold.
PM sent to first person to respond (which was via PM)

And members posting first and asking for more information should be counted as "in-line" first.

IBTL.
IMHO, the first thread response, unless it's an emphatic "I'll take it!" does not mean that that poster has first rights to it. I've occasionally had this issue occur when someone PM's me with a "Will you take $X.XX?" while someone else PM's with a "Let me know your email address and I'll PayPal you the funds". The second person is the one who actually bought the item.
Also, not sure I understand the thread title. Who's the sponsor here?

But when someone asks a question about an item, they have first dibs if they were the first to respond on the thread.
I PMed someone the other day instead of posting my intention on the thread. In the name of transparency, I do think first come via a reply on the actual for-sale thread, first served, should be the order.

It's not about the headlights, moreover, I do not want those specific ones anymore.
This year I purchased 7 items on this site, paypaled the seller, and got a second message
next day that item was sold to someone else with zero explanation.
Let the seller choose, no problem, but an explanation is due, NO? Or is it education ?

Are all PMs processed prior to thread responses, or is it purely order of response regardless of medium? I can see that this could upset a thread responder who thought they were first in line and then are informed that they were beat out by someone who PMed. Similar frustration when you are told a local buyer beat you out.

I expect sellers to be fair-minded, but for me, a response stating, "It's sold" is enough explanation. I don't expect sellers to document timemarks on response sequences merely to justify that they sold an item to someone other than me. In the end, who the item goes to is the seller's call, and as long as the seller is fair and honest, that's all that matters. To me at least......

One example lately :
The thread is about a rennlister searching for a tool.
Another rennlister offers to sell him the tool, with other tools.
Comes geo, offers to buy the tool and a couple of other tools, suggest to the seller to send them to the OP , and when the OP finishes with them, he will send them to me. So OP pays zero, gratis, null, phi, ....... Fair ?
No answer neither on thread nor pm
