Over rev past redline bad?

Personally speaking, I've never seen evidence that an engine ran backwards during a high-speed spin. The rev limiter will not work when the engine's rev's are loaded by the car (as in accidently selecting the wrong gear) so I wouldn't expect that to help save things.

The one time this happened to me is when I was racing a fellow rennlister and my mistake was that I let myself get carried away by what was happening in the track and forgot about my car....I guess thats how you learn.

I did it when I first got my car. It was to the point that the check engine light came on.

After a restart and 10k miles later.... No issues.
