Interesting thread. I'm entertaining the idea of getting a 993. I have owned every air-cooled 911 series - 901/911/930/964 but not the 993. I also have had water-cooled's: 944, 996, Cayenne and Cayman.

For the folks that went back to a 993 from a 996/997, are you using the 993 as a daily driver?

From 997 to 993 and none of my Porsches have been a daily driver. I'll drive it any day that's nice and it's appropriate, but I only average maybe 5k miles a year on my 2nd car. The rest go on the 330i.

I have had a 1986 911, a 1985 Turbo-look, both gone, and a 1997 C2S and the 2006 997 Club Coupe.

I still gravitate to the 993 whenever I go out to get in a Porsche.

Sure it is not as fast as the 997, but to me, it just feels better on my SOP indicator. It is definitely a keeper.

Ron, we just got back from Conn; we sure could use some of those "ancient" roads out here, especially those in the northwest corner.

I think since they came out with the 996, Porsche became commercialized. They totally ruined the interior! I still don't understand why they had to make such a drastic change to the interior... Our 993 are the zenith of Porsche

Pete - It's a love / hate relationship with our roads in CT. You are so right that the twisties in the Litchfield Hills are wonderful (and no issues with a low car out there - especially on my way to Lime Rock). It's the circa late 1600s to 1800s roadway network "in town" that's a bear. The colonists cut a path, which became a horse / cart path, then a carriage path, later a dirt road, and finally became our paved road... No engineering or reconstruction, just built good over bad. So we have some unfriendly transitions (example here in Farmington is the intersection of Meadow Road and Main Street).

Great thread... it says many of the things I think every time I get in the driver seat of my 993. I have had my C4S since 1998 and am the second owner. This has been my daily driver up until I bought a Mercedes ML350 for daily use... Even though she has some miles on her - thanks to Bob Grigsby at RMG and Darin and Mark at FD Motorsport, my 993 runs like new. I ran across the following article that gives a good review of the 993 vs the 997. Worth a read. http://www.insideline.com/porsche/91...rsche-993.html
