wow, funny timing. i have been considering a tt 996 or 997 (like the round lights of 997 better though). i have been thinking of more power so considering the h20 bangers. so, thought i would look on here and see what people were saying...snuck back here to the 993 site and talk about timing. don't get me wrong, i love my 993 cab. just thinking...maybe that is a bad idea. don't want to make a bad decision

the 997s are fantastic cars

however, you hit the nail on the head with your decision, in my opinion
I personally don't go with the "it has more soul" description of the 993
prefer to call it "character" but I think it is the same sort of thing

I love my basic, low optioned 993 C2

This is a cool discussion as I'm currently looking at GT3's. I think it'll be a 997, as like most people I can't handle the lights and lack of curves on the 996.
Another thing that is great about the 993 is that the prices of 993 are holding their value pretty good compared to other P-cars.
I think it will be pretty hard to sell my 993 as it's so well set up. I would love to keep it and get a GT3, but like most need the cash for the new car, also only room for 1 toy in the heated garage.
In a perfect world I'd have a- wide body 993, concours
- Cup car for track
- more modern P-car, Turbo, GTS, 997.2 GT3, 991
every day car

993's are such great cars, good size, great to look at, fun at the track, built like tanks, run forever, sound great and in my opinion will be the 911 all others are compared to, wait why am I looking at a 997 GT3 ?????
I'm sure if I sell my car and buy a GT3, one day I'll get another 993, maybe the next house I build should have a 2 car heated garage.....

Cheers,
Geoff

Geoff,
You'll probably end up like me and you'll kick yourself for selling your air cooled for even a 997 GT3. The GT3 was fast and raw, but I couldn't drive it around the street because even a gentle driveway apron or a street intersection would scrape badly. I'm in CT and our roads were originally laid out in the 16 and 1700s - meaning the engineering is not appropriate to low cars like the GT3. I found I would only end up driving my GT3 on a DE day and after a 2nd year of that realized I longed for the more street-friendly Porsche.

Wants change over time and now and in the near future I'm just looking for a great "classic" Porsche to enjoy on the street only. So my new-to-me 993 C2S fits the bill wonderfully. I have only a few "adjustments" in the works, including M033 / Koni FSD, Turbo S fogs / ducts, and painted front and rear bumperettes. Eventually, I may go front bumperette delete and Euro corners.

The perfect car or motorcycle for me has been a moving target. I too had a 997 C2S, an 09' with PDK. I loved it for several months but soon realized it wasn't as much fun as my 95' C2 coupe. So I took a huge beating to sell it and after a couple foolish purchases, see signature, I got another 95' 993. I was happy again but missed the power of the 997. So I sold that and got a 993tt. In a month or so I'll be getting it back from the shop when I'm sure I'll be happy again, but eventually I know I'll start thinking about a RUF conversion or an Andial 3.8 like "El Guapo". The only certainty is that any Porsche I buy will be air cooled. I have a friend with a 2100 lb 911T with a "breathed on 3.2" that is so agile that my 993 feels like a limo by comparison. He's owned more P cars than I've had shoes. I prefer my 993 but as I've stated before....if we all agreed on everything we would be fighting over the same woman.....Cheers.....Chris

I prefer a sports car over a GT. This is my weekend car, so comfort and conveniences as a DD isn't a consideration. As fine as the 997 is, in Porsche's newer offerings, I would lean toward a Caymen S (or R) or Boxster Spyder. Wouldn't sell the 993 to do that, though.

After driving a 997 I immediately missed the constant dialogue of my 993. New P-cars think of everything, they compensate for human driving mistakes and all you have to do is step on the gas and go. Its a digital button-fest on the inside and the lightweight doors, along with the feel of plastic makes me feel like Im in a Toyota, not that there is anything wrong with Toyotas, but it makes me feel ordinarily average. I felt mass-produced when behind the wheel of a 997, I felt "globalized".

On the other hand, when Im behind the wheel of my 993....well you guys know...

Tks for your thoughts.
I love your red C2S, that and a white 997.1 GT3RS would be my perfect garage.
My car is very low and do not have the problem with the roads you have where you live.
I very much agree that wants change over time, I have a great wife that understands that. I seem to change cars every 3 or 4 years. It's very cheap to change cars, much more pricey when it comes to wives!!!
I was thinking of selling my 993 this spring, and buying a GT3 about a year after that. I have a great cottage and 2 even better boys that I love to spent time with there. Will have to see what happens, got all winter to mull it over.
One thing for sure, 993's are great cars, and even if I sell this one another will soon be in the garage!

Cheers,
Geoff

Lurking on this board for years reading threads like this and lusting after 993's since I was 15 make me realize I made the right choice.

I've been saving up for a 997 GT3 RS.1 for a while and could probably go ahead and pull the trigger if I'd be willing to sell the 993. That said, posts like this (and there have been quite a few) have given me the benefit of knowing I will regret parting with the 993 to chase my RS dreams. So, I'm gonna save for a couple of more years so that I can enter the world of dual Porsche ownership. Also, I'm convinced that 997 GT3 prices will take another hit when the 991 GT3 is introduced, so I'd rather be on the winning side of that depreciation curve!

997's are great cars to lease and drive everyday...Not that you can't drive a 993 everyday...but to me, the newer Porsches (post 993) lost some of the soul that made a Porsche a Porsche. The 996 (of which I bought a brand-new one in June of 1998 after selling my '87 Carrera) was a wonderful car the short 8 months I had it...but it felt so...manufactured (not crafted)... I smartly went back to an aircooled car (a wonderful Polar Silver '97 993 S) and happily took the hit on the depreciation of the 996.

I've had only one other water-cooled Porsche since my original 996 purchase and that was a 996 Turbo. Great car, but every time I got back into one of my 993's, I was reminded why I fell in love with Porsche all those years ago.

So, in my humble opinion...996, 997 and the new 991's are fantastic cars...to drive everyday...much like you would a new Mercedes or BMW or Audi...but they're nothing special. They're fun...but they're the girl you date...not the girl you marry.

Damien
