^^^ and a caveat to all of it is .. if there were ANY special 'long lead' items or exclusive options that required hand work to be done to any of these cars .. or any reason at all that they could not be completed in the normal 'flow' .. chances are they would not be sequentially numbered vin's because the "Production Date" on the stickers are generated when the car is finished and rolled out to the delivery pens.

Yeah .. you should feel that anywayz in your 993 Cab. A quick scan around you at any given time will completely reinforce ANY illusions of grandeur you care to entertain

My chassis number is 1348 not 348. It is the highest chassis number I have seen here on the post your vin list. When I ordered it 1997 I specifically told my salesman at Champion Motors in FL I wanted the last 993. I think it is the last or one very close to the last 993 produced.

If the VIN # went to 1353 and they did not use them all my 1348 could very well be "one" of the very very last 993 C2S made cool

Well, I wouldn't quote me here .. it's speculation given that the redbook gives 1292 as the last used number but they are certainly not the last word for authority. According to the Porsche factory press release, the last 993 produced was for Jerry Seinfeld and rolled out March 31, 1998 .. don't know the chassis number .. but here's the archive photo:

Yes .. so again, vin number isn't necessarily sequential in terms of time (production date) .. which is the date that a car is 'finished' taken out of the factory and brought to the holding pens for delivery .. I'm sure there was plenty of 'behind the scene's' shenanigans to make good on Porsche's agreement with Seinfeld that his car would be the last one to roll out so that they both could make that claim ... legally and for posterity ..

But this type of out of sequence stuff happens on production lines when any anomaly causes a previously numbered and stamped product to be sidelined for repairs from damage incurred during assembly, special options, vendor installed items, delayed vendor parts ... you name it. The products are just pulled off to the side until what they need gets done and then put back into the continuously moving production in a later slot ...

Also ... as a sidenote, that production date for 993's was input at rollout and their inventory computer generated the door jam sticker we all have on our North American import vehicles but that sticker wasn't applied until the cars reached the dealerships from what I understand .. and that might account for all of the crooked stickers I've seen in every position and angle that sticker could be applied .. doh!

Ok .. then your car was finished after the mid July cutoff for model year .. usually coincided with the factory taking their summer vacation for a month and returning to the next model year's production .. I've been told in that 4 week break, the engineers and management in charge of the production lines would make all the switchovers and changes to inventories, computer programs, machinery .. etc., that the new model year demanded and be ready to roll when the lines resumed in August. I am such a geek ... no?

My 98 has a number of 192 for the last 3 numbers. Ours were probably born on the same day, how sweet!
