Production numbers for 1998 993 c2 cab ?

Hi,

The Wikipedia 911 or 993 forum lists the production numbers for the 993 c2 cab with varioram (1996-1998). However would any of you know how many we're produced in 1998 only?

Thx!

Jf

P.s. will post picture of mine in a follow up post. I Only had it for a few months but already pampering it and treating it as a member of the family...

Zero Porsche 993 produced in 1998.
The last porsche 993 out of the factory rail was end of October beginning of Nov 1997.
993 produced after July 1st 1997 carry the MY98 W VIN
Nobody could give me the exact date at the factory back in 2002, the answers were (we were busy installing the next programm)(german humor)
A good number of the late 993's went to the exclusive department, and some left the department in Jan or Feb 98
Some returned to the exclusive workshop after being unsold @ dealers.
The latest was one who came back in late 1999, pumped up, then went to RUF

As geolab pointed out above, the numbers allocated and time-frame put aside, and the actual production cabriolets and dates of manufacture are going to be short due to the factory converting to 996 production that year. However, according to the Red Book:
Cabriolet chassis vin numbers allocated for MY 1998 which were scheduled to be "produced" 8/97-7/98 are:
R.O.W. WP0ZZZ99ZWS330001-0198, but actual produced cars totaled 138.
U.S./Canada WP)CA299CWS340001-1263 but actual produced cars totaled 1201

I have chassis number 830 produced 11/97 which means, if geolab's info is correct, that there were at least 400 cars produced in November ... not a huge number considering the average daily finished 911 units at peak production today are around 70 vehicles, so if they were producing 40 Cabs a day, it's only 10 days production. By comparison, BMW was producing around 160 cars per day in 1998 ....

please bear in mind that the special DOT USA/Canada sticker mentioning MFD date, was affixed always after car was ordered by dealer in USA.
The bar code included dealer information for insurance, and TAX purposes.
I have seen one of these with MFD of 02/98, obviously should mean car left exclusive workshop on feb 98 and not that
car left factory rail production in 98
These stickers are not on ROW cars.
The dealer has exact mfd date
Got mine there

Where do you find the chassis number? My C2S has MFD of 12/98 with last 5 of VIN: 321348.

When I say chassis number ... I'm referring to the last 4 digits of the vin that's all. Are you sure your Manufacturer date is 12/98? Don't you mean 12/97?

That follows what I've been told, the last cars shipped out after New Year and for North America, that's a 30 day passage to get to the dealer ..
I've read and/or been told that all production was finished on the 993 before the factory break for Christmas and most of the last few weeks were done by the Exclusive department away from the new 996 production lines as they were in full production mode by then.
Many of the Cab's I've seen in the last 100 vin numbers are Tiptronic and loaded with options like 8-way heated, lumbar adjustable seats, Carbon/Aluminum or Burl Wood accent packages, limited slip/ABD, Hi-Fi Sound with remote CD .. I think the factory was trying to get as much inventory off the shelves and into the dealer's as they could .. ;-P

production numbers, more info

Hey Listers,

Noting that # 830 was manufactured 11/97, my chassis number is 594, produced 10/14/97. by Certificate of authenticity. If we could get more numbers (I know some list was put on the RL), we could really get daily output!

What is with some have quoted from sources that only 993 Wide bodies were produced in total?

Cheers,
C2S

356lajolla,

Your number does not match as 12/97, you stated chassis numbers number 348, whereas mine as noted above is number 594, according to Porsche's "certificate of authenticity" produced 10/11/97, so October 14, 1997.
So yours, if built in Dec. 97 should be a higher number!

Please recheck your chassis number, so to be sure you have the right information.

Just trying to be of help...

My manufacture date is 12/97, #1152. So I'm guessing that makes mine one of the last 993's built? Does that mean it wasn't built on the factory line but in the exclusive dept?

Well ... I've heard various scenarios but the most likely is that they were built on an isolated assembly line somewhere away from 996 production .. and your car's vin is only 49 numbers from the end so ... it was definitely one of the very last days that Porsche built 993's :-) might have been built right along with Jerry Sienfeld's Turquoise Blue 'S' .. the car purportedly to be the last 993 built.

You're confusing Cabriolet vin numbers with Coupes. Each model, Cab, Coupe, Targa and Turbo for North America, Mexico and Brazil had their own unique set of vins. All of the last coupes were Turbo body cars (widebody's) and of course, Cabriolets and Targa's were not. Normally Aspirated Coupes total model year 1998 production for North America as I have it was 1292 cars .. vin number's allocated were WP0AA299'X' (where X is variable) WS320001 through 1353 and again, they didn't use them all ....
