Default "Don't that beat all: a Bastard 993." What???!!!

Fellow Rennlisters--
Saw this car today while enjoying a gorgeous 75-degree-day drive in Southern CA today (sorry ROW-ers). The allure of a sweet-looking 993 for sale compelled me to stop and take a peek to potentially alert RL searchers...

But...take a close look, and you will be surprised by the 4th pic...Actually, the 3rd if you're really paying attention!

You can tell right away from the 1st picture - the wipers and headlight washers are from a pre-993 chassis.

What's really weird is that they retrofitted a 964 airbag steering wheel which is totally pointless.

Yep, wipers in the first pic are a dead giveaway.

I think I have seen that car before. It sat in the parking lot of a Liquor store next to a flower stand on Twin Oaks Valley Road for a while. Later I saw it for sale somewhere else but I can't remember where.
My wife and I stopped to check it out, this was over a year ago but it must be the same car. The bodywork was decent considering the amount of work involved but it definitely wasn't perfect.

I saw it on the first pick too - the rear seat peeking out is definitely not a 993 pattern. Very sad that we can recognize that level of detail.

Lots of money spent on this conversion, you have to wonder why?

Maybe becasuse 993s are very desirable and so now they're creating them like Frankenstein??

There are 2 more on ebay here in Australia too. I suppose there is a market for them, just like any other update but as you guys here all know, there is nothing like the genuine 993 is there...

The wheelbase is shorter, so the wheels never sit right in a 993 body. (From the side view looks like its cross eyed).

I thought the wheelbase was unchanged on the 911 from 1969 through the 993. Aren't they all 89.4"?

Possibly wrecked and, while they were spending the money to repair, it might not have been too much more to "upgrade" it. Might have cost less and been worth more had it been returned to what it was rather than as a one-off.
Gonna be a tough sell. About as tough as this one-
