I highly doubt lid struts would ever be a deal breaker or even a concern, as some have mentioned.
They actually can fail quickly and are a very minor item. Knowing that, I would give the seller the benefit of the doubt on that one.
I would be more concerned with the questions of overall honesty, i.e. "I own all of my inventory"
interesting thing to be un-truthful about...

I like him
When I needed advice on bringing back to life a 78 911 that had been sitting for 8 years Mr Sloan was helpful and more than cordial.
He told me the truth and offered some of his resources when I needed them. He gave me his cell number and let me ask about 100 questions with no complaints.
I found him to be worthy of a favorable mention.

That is the kind of thing that brings me back when I want a newer or nicer or more expensive car.
I have bought north of 30 motorcycles right here in town. I have used 3 dealers. One of them went of business. At the other two, one of them now we have done business approaching 25 years, that is the kind of thing we do.

One thing you can be asurred. Those mechanics and techs are fussy about struts. They dont like working around broomsticks, or with a rope holding the hatch open, or with the lid up against their head and shoulders. If they were having trouble with them they would let you know.

Really? A '68 hacked into a longwheelbase? That's what I did with my first car back in '81. But I went short hood, since the long hood thing was so passe. Not to mention 997.2 GT3 money for an engine with JE pistons........... (As a comparison, I could probably do my zero rust, zero ever damaged '73 shell into a non-widebody 3.2L variant for 35-40% of his ask for that car.)

Hood struts give it up
Alex if you bought a 12year old plus car and all it needed was hood struts you did real well. Even brand new Porsches have a punch list that needs to be addressed after delivery . I bought 4 cars from mr Sloan he has been nothing but honest and trustworthy..

When you come across as supplying nothing but the best in cars, and that would apply to any dealer charging top dollar for a car, then I would expect not to have to replace something as obvious and as simple and cheap to replace as gas struts for a hood and engine lid.

Hood struts get a life
I didn't buy my 993 from him; someone I know did.

I worked on a car that was bought from him a couple of weeks earlier. I installed the hood and engine lid shocks.
Most smart shoppers expect a top car when paying top dollar. You may do otherwise if you wish.

Alex your a tire kicker.. You didn't even buy a car from mr Sloan and your bashing his reputation on here say.. You should get all the facts before you speak. Allgood richard weber.. Great neck ny. A happy sloancars client .. The best in the air cooled Porsche world..pcars rule
A few anti-troll pills and no-dealer-shill suppositories would be useful as well.

Burning Brakes
in 2009 at the age of 15 he owned this fleet of supercars: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...3-rs-help.html
Then at the ripe old age of 17 he "purchased" his first car, but he didn't know how to drive a stick? https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...questions.html
